I think the more important thing to look at is when ARM is to that point, so will we. We already have the software for many devices. Both tablets and mobiles with at least two OS's now supported. My two year old Cell phone produces work units equal to some older laptops. I'm sure your arguments are that those laptops are no longer efficient to modern PC's. And that is true, but they are still used because that is what people already have. I didn't buy my phone to crunch for science. But I have it and it is capable, so therefore I use it too. It isn't a power hog, so that isn't noticeable. I don't crunch while it is in my pocket. I do crunch while it is charging at my desk and while I'm sleeping. So, discounting it because it is a waste today is idiocy. SETI wasn't trashed because the millions of PC's available weren't the highest most efficient systems. It was supported because the resources were available. ARM is no different.
