I saw several notices that the source code was available, but no link to it anyplace obvious. How do we get a copy of the source? ![]() ![]() My machines |

puh, I'm not the only one searching for the "Download Source here" - button... I doubt it will be availiable that readily. The new code is still pending. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

I doubt it will be availiable that readily. The new code is still pending. So where did the 'optimizers' (like Milksop) get the code from? mic. ![]() |

I doubt it will be availiable that readily. The new code is still pending. Well, I found some source code here. The claim though is that the source code is not the latest. Given the date of last modification on the files in the archive are late-October 2007 and the latest applications were released for use in early-March 2008, then they are "older", but could still serve as a good reference point. If the project is going to have that page accessible, then they should update it to the codebase that was used to create the currently available applications... |

Other than Milksop and Crunch3r has anyone else been able to get this dang thing running? I had to fix a couple of unresolved references in 'boinc_astronomy.C' (boinc_read_parameters & boinc_read_star_points) and the code compiles & links without problems. However, it only seems to want to run in standalone mode. When I put the BOINC client in charge the app crashes with a signal 11 immediatly. The target machine is an HP C3600 (PA-RISC) running Gentoo Linux that has successfully run SETI@Home for a couple of years. Same results when compiled/run on an Intel box. A library issue perhaps? All my boxes (with the exception of 3 Compaq servers) run Gentoo (kernel 2.6.25, 2008.0 profile) and self compiled BOINC 6.1.0. Heres the output from 'emerge --info': Portage 2.1.4.5 (default-linux/hppa/2008.0/server, gcc-4.1.2, glibc-2.7-r2, 2.6.25-gentoo-r7 parisc) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.25-gentoo-r7 parisc PA8600 (PCX-W+) Timestamp of tree: Fri, 24 Oct 2008 09:15:01 +0000 distcc 2.18.3 hppa2.0-unknown-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ccache version 2.4 [enabled] app-shells/bash: 3.2_p33 dev-lang/python: 2.4.4-r9, 2.5.2-r7 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r6 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.11.1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61-r2 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.1-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.26 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.23-r3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="hppa" CBUILD="hppa2.0-unknown-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=2.0" CHOST="hppa2.0-unknown-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=2.0" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="ccache distlocks metadata-transfer parallel-fetch sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" LANG="en_US.utf8" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://sheridan/gentoo-portage" USE="apache2 berkdb bzip2 caps cli cracklib crypt dloader firefox foomaticdb fortran gdbm gpm hal hppa iconv imlib isdnlog ldap libg++ libwww mailwrapper midi mudflap mysql ncurses nls nptl nptlonly openmp pam pcre perl pic pppd python readline reflection sdl session snmp spell spl ssl tcpd threads truetype unicode xml xml2 xorg zlib" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="dummy fbdev" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY |

From other threads the impression I received was the new code would be released in about two weeks. Anyone else able to confirm this, and where are we likely to see the download link? |

Other than Milksop and Crunch3r has anyone else been able to get this dang thing running? I've never tried it under Linux, sorry. But I guess you could ask Crunch3r as he has compiled not only his version, but also the official ones for Linux. |

I sort of got the impression from here and the invite Dave made to you here about releasing your code to the community! The delay in getting the code to the community may be down to the Admins needing to check some error issues as outlined here. Together, these gave me an impression we could see a speed up (not optimised, but speeded up) client being available to the rest of us, and this might be within the next few weeks? |

I'm meeting with the admins about the release of the new app and code tomorrow. Hopefully we can roll out before the end of the week. But you know that so far these timelines have not been met. Dave Przybylo MilkyWay@home Developer Department of Computer Science Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute |

Dave Thanks for the update and to the people working on the coding efficiency improvements working with the people in the community who have prompted others. We all look forwards to the release of the new client code in due time, especially myself. |

Well Travis hasn't compiled the code changes I pushed through so we cant release until that happens. But i will look into the database errors. Thanks for bringing that to our attention. Dave Przybylo MilkyWay@home Developer Department of Computer Science Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute |

I made some changes to the database. See if it resolves some of the issues. Dave Przybylo MilkyWay@home Developer Department of Computer Science Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute |

I made some changes to the database. See if it resolves some of the issues. No, it still reads: Database Error if I want to change something. |
