Hello!

A bit early, but I think it does not make much difference to the crunchers from the Americas and the time may be more convenient for our European friends (sorry for the Australians).

As promised, here are the Links:

Windows32/64 (32bit executable, runs on both versions), alternative link
and
Linux32/64 (32bit executable, runs on both versions), alternative link

I'm sorry because of that file hosters, but I don't want some thousand people to download this directly from my PC.

The installation works the same way as with every optimized app using the anonymous platform mechanism. Just unzip/untar and copy the two files (the executable and the app_info.xml) to the Milkyway project folder "...\BOINC\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway" (substitute the 3 dots with the actual path on your system). Linux users have to set execute permission to the executable. Then restart Boinc (restart the service if you are using service or protected installation) and you are done. The new app will resume the calculation from existing checkpoints.

If you are running Linux64, you can match the version number in the app_info.xml file to the one you are using (123 for the official one or 124 for Crunch3rs with static linkage). Just change the number in the line
<version_num>122</version_num>
to the one you are using now. But beware, that is not tested. I don't know if the checkpoints of Crunch3rs app are compatible with the ones from the official version (I would guess they are). If the checkpoints are incompatible, the WUs started with the old version will most likely crash. But the next ones should work.
If you don't do the change the Boinc client will invalidate all WUs and download new ones.

PS:
What I wrote here is still valid.
An don't forget the credit limit ;)

At Vista 64 you have to move the files into ...\users\boinc_master\projects\milkyway...

BOINC-manager says there's a parse error in the xml, but nevertheless it runs without problems and really fast...

On my AMD X2 5200 with Win 32 a gs_372-task takes around 6 minutes, that is so far almost the same time like Crunch3rs first coded app.
Credits should be adjusted back to 4,05 in that case... ;-)
Since the gs_373s are around the half time, so 2,02 Credits would suit them well.

Whow! That's incredible, even on my old dual P3.

My Penny is knocking 373s off in under 2 minutes and 372s just over 3 minutes. Have yet to study the P3, but the Prestonia Xeon is taking 11.75 mins on a 372 and 6.5 minutes on a 373.

The credit given has been adjusted down for this faster client

Thanks Milksop

My 3 computers get 0.06 credits per second per core (= 216 credits per hour per core). THX Milksop.

BOINC-manager says there's a parse error in the xml, but...

The parse error comes from a missing slash at the end:
<app_info> should be </app_info>. ;-)))
Lovely greetings, Cori

The credits are fixed... Now you are experiencing the same situation like Crunch3r these last months... The Admin's credits limit...

You can be faster, but how much faster you are minus credits you have per wu... (but you've done more work)
Logan.

There's a limit set.
Every second you can get maximal 0,06 credits.
That makes maximum 216 Credits per hour per core.

Edit:
Thanx Cori for the hint. I couldn't find the error as I watched inside the file... ;-)

If I run my cache down - will I still be granted the now inflated credits?

What inflated credits? the credis are the same...

If you runs the Milksop app, the credits are the same. but if you are so faster to overtake the Admin's limit, the credits/cpu/hour will be 216 than if you crunch 10 wu's per hour or 1000...

No they are neither

372 WUs used to be 260 and 373 were ~140, they are now 12.19 and 6.59

So it doesn't matter at this stage wether I run my cache down or install the new app, the resultant credit will be the same?

inflated was probably the wrong word.....

OK I've got it now.............

It's the credits limit... Talk with the admin's about that...

See in the home page the punishment to Crunch3r...

No. With the old app you will get the usual credits.
With the new one you get more per time and less per WU. You will be limited to 0.06 credits/second.

Because of the reduced credit per WU for this faster client, I am not sure whether the 300 WU limit is still operating.

Anyone know?

The credit is not reduced... You are now faster like Crunch3r since a lot of months ago... and granted with the same limits, in credits and wu's... How is the experience? Great...? I think not... Talk with the admins...
