Of course after I pick up some work elsewhere, MW comes through and dumps work onto my systems. LOL. I noticed that too. <smile> I just made 2 of my goals. Actually the only ones I had set for myself when I hit 1 mil on Einstein and 1/2 mil on CPDN this week. Still don't know what I'm going to do with MW yet. Thinking more along the lines of getting to 1/2 mil so that I have 3 of my 4 projects at what I consider an accomplishment. Considering it has taken years to accomplish the first 2. I'd thought about at this stage of continuing to run Einstein 50/50 with MW on 2 of my computers and 50/50 CPDN and MW on the thrid one. More than likely that's how I'll keep it unless something drastic changes. I'm currently burning in a new system for my oldest son, whose in the air force and will be home on leave in 2 weeks. When he gets in that system will be gone from Boinc. Don't know if I'm going to get his XP 3000+ sytem or if he's going to try and sell it yet. 3 computers is really more than enough for me, the wife's and backup file server system. [Edit] On and the other goal was 2 mil in Boinc and I'll hit that in a day or 2. I guess the next goal is how many years til 3 mil <sigh> [/Edit] |

From the BOINC Manager logs it looked like MW work came through (flooding?) about 5.45 am UTC this morning. Like others I have a 2 project per rig policy, and the other project got all the cycles during this dry patch (possibly 8 hours worth). Now crunching 50:50 and slowly creeping towards two targets. |

Looks like the flood has dried up again. As of 8AM PST From the BOINC Manager logs it looked like MW work came through (flooding?) about 5.45 am UTC this morning. |

Anton is quite correct. Things are drying up quickly here, despite the server saying there are over 1200 WU ready.Lastnight there was a similar situation, and I believe the available WUs were all test ones. Travis can we have some normal work, please? |

Anton is quite correct. The old assimilator is pumping out WUs as fast as it can. I'm not quite sure what the problem is... |

Anton is quite correct. Well, Cosmology@Home is down, so you may be seeing extra traffic... |

Faster PCs are getting starved again of normal work. I assume this is also the case with test clients? I saw Travis's comments on some of the server issues he is trying to solve. |

hi guys configure your boinc client (under Settings) to get more wus. The default value of boinc cient is 0,25 which means your computers getting work for a day quarter, or 6 hours. If you change this value ,lets say to 2 days then next time you will start the client you will get work equal to 2 days cpu working time. just try it! |

But first there have to be Wus!! *grin* Scheduler says: "Results ready to send 5" - that's not really much. ;-) Lovely greetings, Cori |

hi guys 2 days...? hahaha... with the 20 wu's per core in cache and the 300 wu's downloaded per core at day limits? Are you kidding? Logan. BOINC FAQ Service (Ahora, también disponible en Español/Now available in Spanish) |

No work? edit: got 2 finally, think it has to do with deleting the files & restarting Boinc in order to get new work. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

oh i forgot the 20 tasks limit per cpu, or per core for those who have multicore cpus. The current WU limit is 8 per core, and I am getting work without trouble (mainly the long ones @ 4 x the crunch time of the Milksop client) |

The stripe 82 I had ran for 78 min (milksop was 9-10). So 8x longer for the same credits. The lenght is fine here. But that is a very drastic cut in credits to me. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Well, considering that the old work under the opti was granting virtually unbelievable credit compared to just about any other standard (including BMT), what did you expect from a stocker? You should still be getting a rate close to what you would get using the current Coop apps on SAH. Alinator |

Well, from what I read on other posts I thought the credit was cut to 1/2 or so, not 1/8. It is just a steeper cut than I expected. And again seti should not be one to set the standard by, they don't make the low paying projects raise the credit. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Well, guess what. If you look at what the pay rate for a host is for the SAH stocker, they don't pay that much more than say Leiden (which is a 'low paying' project and uses BMT scoring BTW). For projects that pay lower than Leiden, it would benefit them to take a closer look at their credit scheme and do what it takes to get the rate up, but I'm not going to bust their chops about it. I have PM'ed principals about it and suggested that in the past. If they take it to heart and do something fine, and if not that's OK too. I put my two cents worth in. A main reason that SAH seems to pay more than a lot of other projects is that there is a large number of big gun battleships which do run the Coop apps (regardless of what they say) and that tends to drive their CPP numbers up compared to everyone else. That was the primary reason for the tweak which floats the SAH cobblestone dynamically, even if that means it penalizes older hosts as time goes by and violates a basic BOINC system specification. However, it doesn't seem to be having much effect, or at least I'm just not seeing it. I've been busy with things here and outside the BOINC world for the most part for a couple of months. One other thing to remember is SAH also lowered the basis of the work value a couple of timed way back when compared to what it was when there was only BMT scoring and the shortcomings of that were becoming apparent as hardware platforms moved forward, even if you weren't doing anything 'new' to the applications or work. IMO, that was the primary reason for the bad blood about the whole topic of CPP back then, and to this day for that matter. AFAICT, it looks to me like the current stocker is paying roughly twice what it should be, especially if MW is going to keep the source open and let folks take a crack at making hardware platform specific optimizations running under the anonymous platform. This would make them virtually equivalent to SAH in a scoring regard and another good reference to use for CPP given the nature of the work here. Personally, I think it would be nice to have another credit reference project along with EAH around, which is outside the sphere of influence at Berkeley (and certain elements there). ;-) Alinator |

From my BOINC Manager /messages tab/ it looks like one of the servers (Transitioner) is shown as working, but there is no work available. Now one of my systems is unable to report results. All rigs are now on the routine - 03/12/2008 09:15:20|Milkyway@home|Master file download succeeded 03/12/2008 09:15:25|Milkyway@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 03/12/2008 09:15:30|Milkyway@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded 03/12/2008 09:15:30|Milkyway@home|Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance 03/12/2008 09:15:30|Milkyway@home|Deferring communication for 1 hr 0 min 0 sec 03/12/2008 09:15:30|Milkyway@home|Reason: project is down 03/12/2008 09:18:16|Milkyway@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 03/12/2008 09:18:21|Milkyway@home|Scheduler RPC succeeded 03/12/2008 09:18:21|Milkyway@home|Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance 03/12/2008 09:18:21|Milkyway@home|Deferring communication for 1 hr 0 min 0 sec All this seems to have happened originally about 7.00 UTC, from my BOINC Manger /Messages tab/. The system has been running fine for the last 36 to 40 hours, except for Travis turning off the "instant purge". He thought there may be problems, is this it? Server status still shows all runnung at this time. |
