After being unable to get much work and in fact being totally unable on one of my machines all of a sudden I seem to be able to get as much as I can handle, always have WU's available on all 3 of my systems. I don't have a ATI card and I had heard they were burning threw most of the WU's. Are the jobs they get larger, because even my slowest system doesn't take much time, if I could use my pair of 295's it seems they would take only minutes. Hopefully CUDA will become usable on this site soon, currently while GPU's seem to be able to do more per dollar than CPU's, the apps that can use them, either brand is horribly limited. If a site can they should focus on adding this capability, because there are lot's of powerful systems coming on line at the moment hungry to do some crunching. While the CPU farmer are not too pleased with the credits people are racking up so quickly, I have notice lots of them starting to arm their farms, mostly with 260's on GPUgrid.net, they have 10 computers, meaning most had 20 PCI Express slots they can fill. I would be a bit pissed myself but it has meant more people can afford to do distributed computing and feel they are doing some significant science, for under $3000, based on my weekly and monthly results, I'm No. 2 in Canada, but more importantly I feel I can produce enough data from my crunching to maybe make a real contribution, as even my overclocked Q6600 only generated 5 or 6 thousand points a day depending on the app, my new system does more like 95,000/day. The guy from Mexico who has 10 computers all with 16 core CPU's and Dual GTX 295's in every one of them will in time eventually hit a Rac of 1,000,000/day. |
