41) Message boards : Number crunching : Boinc 7.6.22 & CPU Benchmarks (Message 64252)

I've recently noticed that if you run cpu benchmarks with boinc or boinc runs a cpu benchmark itself that MW@H tasks do NOT stop as tasks from other projects do when a benchmark is run.

This leads to much reduced run times for the WU being processed and a probable invalid result.

I think given that Boinc has caused problems for MW@H tasks in the past that it might be an idea for the 'powers that be':-) To check this out.

What's wrong with rereading the configuration? Works for me.

Boinc Manager > Options > Read configuration. I suppose that's the item in English, my Manager spells them in Dutch.

Because it doesn't work!

Did that got the T shirt. The only way to sort the problem out is either reset the project, and dump your cache, OR do what I did and edit client state files.

Hi Mikey,
yeah, makes sense, but I just wish someone in the programming dept at BOINC would makes those sorts of changes immediate.. Save a lot of faffing about to sort out a problem, particularly if you have a large[ish] cache of WU.

Hi Folks,
Just had a bit of a runaround with the latest version of BOINC[7.6.9]:-/
I was running 2 WU on one of my NV GPU's using the app_config.xml file posted earlier. However that was causing other non MW@H WU to run slower so I decided to revert to 1 WU on the gpu..

However when I removed the aforementioned app_config.xml file from the project directory BOINC kept on running 2 WU on the gpu:-(

After some hunting I discovered the both the client state files had an entry of 0.5 for the GPU:-/ Had to edit both files back to 1.000000 WU on the GPU..

I don't know why BOINC put those entries in the client state files or why when the app_config.xml was removed, it didn't remove those entries in client state files, but I surmise its a bug of some sort..

But should anyone else want to use the app_config.xml file to run multiple WU's and decide to revert back to a prior configuration my guess is they will run into the same problem I had..

Hi Mikey,

The person who registered the domain for that site passed away a while ago, the domain has lapsed AFAIK.

Hi Folks,

I've managed to boot to the HDD from the defunct rig and aborted all WU for the projects it was running.
Hopefully everyone who was winging it with that rig will soon have the WU re-issued.

Hi,

Ref the defunct rig, I'm hoping to fit the hdd to another rig and access that drive.

whats the best way to clear the cache? disconnect from project or about WU?

Hi Folks,
This is slightly off topic:-/ BUT its advance notice to anyone who is a wingman of my 3rd rig [TPMO3] About 20 mins ago there was a loud crack and TPMO3 is now defunct, I don't as yet know what exactly blew out and gave up its magic smoke, but its a dodo.

Anyone who is running as wingman to the WU that rig had in its cache, will have quite a wait:-((

Just thought I should let folks know the situation.

49) Message boards : Number crunching : server sending tasks NOT selected (Message 63371)

I recently noticed an increase in invalid results for modified fit WU's so I altered my project setting to deselect modified fit WU.

However after doing an update, I found I had received 4 of those tasks. Dispite them being set to off/no in MW@H config settings.

Is this a minor glitch, or will it persist in sending me unselected tasks?
[edit]
And now I have even more modified fit WU..

Hi Tom,
Yup, trouble is, 'every' task of that type fails the same way.. I cannot see any point in processing them, if they are all going to fail.
All they do is utilise my GPU and block other WU that can be processed.

I'll continue to process the modfitts until the others are sorted out.

Thanks for your assistance.

Cliff

We will be switching over to using only fast runs as these slow ones finish up. You can expect them to be all the faster runs by the end of the week.

Thank you for the feedback,

Jake

On a slightly different topic, since yesterday nearly every single unmodded ask I've processed has ended up as a computational error, some 30 odd before I realised what was going on, nothing has changed on my rig...
Has there been an alteration at MW@H end?
I've stopped processing the affected WU and am now only doing modified, seemingly without problems other than delayed validation.

Cliff
