Hey TimeRanger,

I just got the validator fixed. I've tested it on a few workunits and I watched it validate them. I'm going to go ahead and try to come up with a query to tell the validator to recheck all validation inconclusive workunits as well as workunits that were errored for running too many runs. You should see a massive validation run here in a few minutes and you should see retroactive credits even on dead workunits.

As a note some units which we cancelled over the last couple days still will not validate as they were cancelled before a consensus could have been reached on the correct answer.

Jake

Good luck and I hope it's gonna work, fingers crossed for you guys and I hope you have a good sunday regardless!

UPDATE - I now have VALID results and a number of units PENDING. My number of Inconclusive hasn't changed ... most of them were completed within the last 24 hours. THANKS!

I took a break for a day, then reloaded all new units ... most go to the Inconclusive file .. before going to the Invalid bin. Still nothing since the 16th going Valid or even Pending.

All the work I did today is in the state of 'invalid'(Completed, can't validate)
or 'Validation inconclusive'(Completed, validation inconclusive)
Not a single wu is validated today!
State: All (2124) · In progress (159) · Validation pending (1) · Validation inconclusive (528) · Valid (393) · Invalid (554) · Error (489)

I stop doin' work for the wastebasket....

Yes, there is something fishy going on:
https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=1529043651

For example:
2156510831 734325 19 Oct 2017, 6:02:10 UTC 19 Oct 2017, 8:54:50 UTC Completed, validation inconclusive 106.32 29.42 pending MilkyWay@Home v1.46 (opencl_ati_101)
2156604339 745869 19 Oct 2017, 8:55:38 UTC 19 Oct 2017, 10:25:45 UTC Completed, validation inconclusive 228.69 11.73 pending MilkyWay@Home v1.46 (opencl_nvidia_101)
2156652994 616064 19 Oct 2017, 10:27:28 UTC 20 Oct 2017, 10:46:29 UTC Completed, validation inconclusive 6,490.58 5,791.41 pending MilkyWay@Home v1.46
2157355682 569912 20 Oct 2017, 10:47:47 UTC 20 Oct 2017, 11:19:22 UTC Completed, validation inconclusive 120.84 23.95 pending MilkyWay@Home v1.46 (opencl_ati_101)
2157370914 733142 20 Oct 2017, 11:20:21 UTC 1 Nov 2017, 11:20:21 UTC In progress --- --- --- MilkyWay@Home v1.46 (opencl_nvidia_101)

I think in the next step the WU is cancelled, because of too many results... :/

Have also stopped crunching until this is resolved.

I just set No New Tasks also. I haven't received a credit since early AM on the 18th - everything since then - ZILCH.

Same here ... 137 cancelled without running, over 40 completed, Validated, then cancelled ??? Not a single valid unit showing up since the crash - they are all running full length, then getting cancelled.

I have quite a few that have resulted in ERROR due to being Cancelled By Server, apparently without running.

I aborted all with 18 or 20 in the name, and without a fixed somewhere. All others run fine. Some seem to be resend until 5 are done, but they don't last long.

All of my 18s and 20s are now running fine - both on CPU and GPU

BOINC upgraded to 7.8.2 at about the time this started happening. Coincidence?

Yup, coincidence. - I didn't do the upgrade and still have a ton of them crashing

No worries Jake - these are only running for a second before crashing. Now ... if they were running full-length, then crashing .... it would be a different story! LOL

UPDATE - Making progress .... the number of Validation Inconclusive is dropping and the number of VALID completions is rising ... FINALLY! Number of UNSENT tasks is down to just 2, from 120+

Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue? - Since about 20 June, about 60% of my tasks are ending up "Validation Inclusive". Normally this would not be an issue, but I have noticed that the vast majority of them remain UNSENT to other crunchers. TIA

Check out the News section, Jake has explained what they are thinking.

Maybe Im not looking at the right thing - but None of these are the dreaded "PS" or Nbody series.

I am getting about 40% of my tasks going "Validation Inconclusive". None of them are the dreaded "PS" series. The troubling part is that as on now very, VERY few of them are being re-sent to other crunchers. My backlog goes back to 22JUNE

Is there any objection to this plan?

Thank you all for being great.

Jake

No objections .. its just going to take me a while to burn through the ones I currently have in my stash - which are sharing a core with a CPU unit

Im getting a mixed bag of completions - both CPU and GPU. However, it seems that most of the tasks assigned as GPU are actually being completed and given credit for CPU. Not a single task has been completed as GPU in the last 12 hours. Also, since the 1.42s started showing up, my RAC count is falling

EDIT - I just went back through my Completed tasks - both Valid and Inconclusive ... the LAST task that was actually GPU completed was with v1.39. I have zero GPU completed tasks with v1.42

The 1.42s are working for me. However, even though they are taking up to 3 times as long to complete, (both GPU and CPU) the Credit applied is the same as the previous version - 1.39?

So far, just 2 GPU tasks run, both ending in the same error

I like it! Good luck and have a cold one ready for when you finish ;)

If everything goes as planned - +-1 hour, I hope he has a LOT of cold ones ready for the balance of the allotted time! :)

Jake, any idea on how long the maintenance will take? Maybe you can increase the number of tasks we can have in our stash to keep us busy during the down time?

A Workunit is a combination of a program (executable) and a particular set of data.

When a single Workunit is sent to one or many user's, these are called Tasks.

So, each Workunit can consist of many tasks.

Depending of the Project (Milkyway, etc.), when all of the completed tasks are returned, the Project might analyze all of the task results to determine what the "answer" is for the Workunit.

so, there is no set number such as 1000 WUs per Task?
