cc_config.xml needs to be created using notepad and saving it with the .xml extension.

Can I place this anywhere within the file? Sorry for what must seem silly questions.

Ooh ok. Having a look.

Couldn't even find that section using the search tool. I opened it up using notepad and nothing even resembling it. Scratching my head here.

Thanks for the advice, will give it a go.

This is what mine looks like:-

<name>milkyway</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>astronomy_0.19_ATI_x64e.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<file_info>
<name>brook.dll</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>milkyway</app_name>
<version_num>19</version_num>
<flops>1.0e11</flops>
<avg_ncpus>0.1</avg_ncpus>
<max_ncpus>1</max_ncpus>
<cmdline>n3 w1.01</cmdline>

<main_program/>
</file_ref>
<file_ref>
<file_name>brook.dll</file_name>

Not pretending to actually know what I'm doing when I'm editting it.

This is from today. You can see that the top unit as been running for 13 hours an none of the others have crunched anything. I have set it with n4 and w1.1 in the app_info.xml file.

Any hints welcome. Thanks to everyone again for taking the time to try and help us out.

Nope, still not going. I started to get problems when I upgraded the client actually. It seems the client that actually ran the units that said they were running instead of this one that says it's running them all when actually its running 4. Here are the preferences:-

Still hanging. I didn't have to restart the computer to get it running again though just the client.

Upped the virtual memory from 2334mb to 3069 which it recommended on the box that opened up and it started running again. Will keep an eye on again.

Wish me luck.

Still hanging. Tried to suspend and restart and nothing. Resource share is 10000 for milkyway with 1000 for Climate. I have no idea what to do, lol.

Yeah, I think the other thread was the wrong place but there doesn't seem to be a delete button. I have made some alterations which were in the thread that Banditwolf kindly pointed me in the dierction of. Seems ok at the minute, changed some resource priorities and added n3 to my apps file and w 1.01 and seem ok at the minute. But then it always does, lol. {:o)

Thanks for the replies people. Just trying it with the 8.12 at the minute and will report back with the findings.

Ook, where to start.

I'm running Vista64bit, Boinc version 6.4.7, catalsyt 9.2. Trying to get the GPU version 19e running. I have edited the system 32 folder to what is saying in the read me file. I haven't altered the app_info.xml file just inserted it. Machine runs fine for a few hours but when I go back the units are just hanging. Other projects are running fine but milkyway seems to have just frozen.

Any clues to what I have done wrong please. Thanks for reading.

I have tried going to Catalyst 8.12 as I read that sometimes this is the only one that can work on some boxes.

Yeah thats right some people do work for unis but am I bothered and want to have our own league where people who work for unis can't be included, no. Everyone should be included in the same stat table. I earn less than 12k a year but don't drink or smoke and save my spare cash for my hobby. Makes me laugh to hear about snobby, GPU crunchers aren't asking for their own project!!!

I can see your point I honestly can. The thing is the table will be dominated by quadcore over core2duo so whats the difference? Surely you have to take advantage of new technology. Crunching isn't a level playing field, never as been never will be.

I never meant top 10, my hardwares not cutting edge or will I ever have any. But a GPU for each of my machines would make a HUGE difference. Thing is if there are two tables whats the point of doing it that way? I might as well go for the cheap option of the CPU project. I mean think about it. If I want to upgrade my CPU's on my 3 machines that are still CPU I'd need a motherboard and a decent quad core or i7 thats on 3 machines remember, at what cost and not that steep a climb of the RAC. Now if I were to spend £360 I could buy 3 cards and have a HUGE RAC. Spliting the project is such a silly idea to me.

I meant machines, 2 gpu machines and 2 cpu machines. With what I had I was in the top 350 for RAC intill the work dried up. Was thinking of getting a 4850X2 whic I guess would but me up a tad further don't you think? I think me sights are fine :op

lol.

I STILL can't believe the admins are going to split the project. At the end of the day people want to be near the top or we wouldn't have or even need the tables and stats, no question about it. I was going to get a GPU for my birthday but now whats the point? I already have one which would mean 2 GPU machines here and 2 CPU machines. I might as well pull the GPU one I have now and save myself the money and just play in the CPU league. BOINC totally negates the need for improving your computer equipement whether it's latest gadgets or overclocking. Surely more is better? Like I said before, what next a different one for quad core machines!!!
