Since upgrading to Windows 7 (64bit) I have a problem in that the GPU only runs one work unit at a time.

Yes, it should. What driver version RU running?

I'm running ver 8.12

I was not planning to make a change anyway ... I am still proof testing 6.10.7 and now have it on two systems (or is it three?) and I am playing to see if I can avoid the most critical of the bugs that UCB probably still does not see as a bug ... (FIFO on GPU tasks causes BOINC to ignore resource share) ...

Strange, I have no problem with boinc 6.10.3, win xp 32 and 0.20 ATI, my mv racs on a 4850 is growing every minute and able to do some cpu work too, like malaria. I am very, very happy! Thank you all....

Well i've downgraded to 6.6.36........and all is running merrily away now.

I had your same issue. I hadn't read the readme.txt like I was supposed to. Your issue is that there are a few lines in the appinfo.xml file that need to be deleted if you are not using BOINC v 6.10.x

Copied from the readme:
Configuration for older BOINC clients (before 6.10.x):

The included app_info.xml declares the app as GPU app for the new 6.10.x clients. This is done
with a <coproc></coproc> statement, which may confuse older versions as they don't recognize the
type of required GPU. Theses clients may refuse to run the app in such a case. To get it running,
just remove the lines
<coproc>
...
</coproc>
and everything between those tags. It is twice in the .xml file, you have to remove both. After
that you should adjust the value <avg_ncpus>0.05</avg_ncpus> (just above the coproc statement)
to something higher (depends on your needs, but I would recommend 0.5 or even 1).

That should fix your problem. Hope it works.

OK, upgraded to 6.10.4, now I receive the following -
14/09/2009 16:35:58 Milkyway@home Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a version of MilkyWay@Home.

This does not work for me at all.

I've copied the relevant opt files, made sure that MSVC++ 2005 SP1 is installed and rebooted the system.

BOINC then deletes astronomy 0.20 ATI SSE2.exe and brooke32.dll leaving the app info.xml in place then...nothing!

Have I missed something?

running AMD Phenom 9650 Quad, ATI 4870, heaps of RAM and WinXP Pro SP3

seems to be back to normal ........
although run times are shorter, hence the lower grated credit?

Attempting to run these two projects simultaneously but am running into difficulties whereby Aqua will use all 4 of my processors and then go into High Priority thus, not allowing MW to crunch.

This is just a single Aqua cpu wu with a three week deadline so no problems finishing on time.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I've done a quick search of the boards and initially find no other comparision.

What is the Optimal amount of Wu's to be running at once, I though I read some time ago 3 on a Single Core ATI Card & 6 on a X2 Card ???

Should be able to work it out from the wu wall clock completion times...but I'd be interested to know as well.

I've tried both 3 & 4 concurrent units and I don't see any major difference in hourly credits.

Stay with the default!

Your cache size needs to be set to less than 1 day.

I've lowered the cache, and has no effect, still does not explain or resolve, why on the same hardware (dual boot with different display driver versions), same preferences, XP and Vista respond differently?

I'll try putting the same driver version on both machines and see if that works!

I've installed 9.1 and this just made things worse, in so far as repeated crashes of the graphics

HELP REQUIRED.

I have a dual boot system running XP Pro and Vista.

BOINC ver.6.6.20
ATI 0.19f

1.Installed ATI 4870.
2.Installed Catalyst 9.1 for Win Vista. Works as should.
3.Installed Catalyst 8.12 for Win XP. Not working.

Followed instructions in readme file.
Any ideas why it works with vista and not XP?

You need to have net 3.5 installed with XP. To be on the safe side, I usually go into Windows Update and update everything.

I've net 3.5 sp1 installed, BOINC is downloading one wu at a time and processing it, at present, correctly. I have an app info.xml file edited with n3 (I know it's the default) but still recieving one wu and that immediately runs in high priority.
I really want to ditch Vista but until I can resolve this issue I'm stuck with it.

Your cache size needs to be set to less than 1 day.

But that will affect the other project(s), will it not?

Yes. Which projects have you got running on that machine?

At the moment, XP with nothing, that's because of (my) MW issue.
