| Name: Gavin Shaw Age: Not telling you. But was born on the 8th December. Guess which year... Country: Australia. That's right I'm from the 'land down under'. Occupation: Postgrad Research Student at the Queensland University of Technology, Faculty of Information Technology. Currently undertaking a PhD in data mining/information retrieval in the areas of association rule mining, recommender systems and evaluating their results. Hobbies: I enjoy sci-fi (Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Stargate, Battlestar etc) and fantasy books/movies. Enjoy astronomy, but can not afford my own telescope yet and I live too close to the city to get a good sky. Computers and related tech also interest me (as well as computer games such as strategy and first-person including SEIV, SEV, Starfleet Command, Starfury, C&C, Diablo II, Halo 1/2/3, TA, I'm hoping to borrow some newer ones from my brother soon). Have a wonderful and lovely girlfriend (see the picture above). She is also a postgrad research student in the same faculty as me. We are planning to take a trip to China together in Feb 2008. Something I believe in: Never surrender and never give up. In the darkest hour there is always hope. No matter what happens if you try you can succeed. Don't surrender into despair or darkness. Fight all the way and you can succeed. | |
