There are some pretty pictures (read 'plots') on the home page using pretty colours...
Perhaps it would be possible to include a legend so that I don't have to guess if they're represent Oranges and Apples or Yin and Yang...

A most important lesson I learnt in Middle School Math was to label the axes and to identify the plot symbols.

Thanks..

Maybe you should read before you post. They do have a legend: Best, Median, Average, Worst. Also the axis are labeled, Fitness & Particles Analyzed.

There is this that explains more about the graphs and the project: http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_thread.php?id=902
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

I am a simple man with a simple mind!!
My area of expertise is RF communications and IT Security...
My knowledge Of Astronomy is the usual basics, major constellations, galaxies and our planetary system, etc., Finis!
The terms are there, I have read the dissertation and I am still no wiser as to what my "chunk" of work is achieving...
I was hoping for an "Idiots Guide to Milkyway" for contributors!!

I may not get one...

Spiral galaxies have unmistakable characteristic features. The arms of the spiral define a plane. A large concentration of stars at the center of the galaxy makes a bulge there. Spiral galaxies are rich in the gas and dust needed to form new stars. Their blue color tells astronomers that star formation is indeed ongoing in these galaxies. Our solar system lies about two-thirds of the distance from the nucleus in the Milky Way's spiral arm, called the Sagittarius Arm. The stars of the constellation Sagittarius all lie in this spiral arm of the Milky Way.

Some missing mass could be accounted for. Examples would be dark matter and dust unseen by optics. But this is just my option.
