I received a message like this in the past 24 hours and once about 3 weeks ago - this time it froze up my computer - what I want to know is what changed? - I did not change my GPU - it is still a 1GB DDR2 hi-def video card made by NVIDIA running CUDA software - I checked temps while I was sleeping and they remained under 55C for the GPU and under 30C for everything else - if someone can enlighten me, I will be happy to restart this project - but this also isnt the only type of message I have received about the milkyway app - it has just plain been buggy since I began running it |

I received a message like this in the past 24 hours ... Your 8600GT simply lacks the required compute capability 1.3 (i.e. double precision) to run the CUDA application here at MW. Only the GT200 based cards (GTX260 and up) can pull it off. A 8600GT is much too far at the low end of the spectrum ;) Sorry for that. |

I too have been crunching away and all the sudden can no longer get work. 9/9/2009 12:28:54 AM Milkyway@home Message from server: No work sent 9/9/2009 12:28:54 AM Milkyway@home Message from server: Can't use NVIDIA GPU app for MilkyWay@Home: Your GPU lacks the needed features I understand the card I have may not be up to snuff (8500GT) but before last weekend, I was crunching away and turned in 742 units. I run both this project and SETI@Home. I joined yours because S@H was down and not sending WU's. Worked great for a day or two and ever since its complaining my GPU lacks the needed features. The odd thing is, in my Prefs here on the site, I specifically said NOT to use the GPU (its unchecked). I assumed it would use CPU like it has in the past. But only every once in a while does it "try" to get work for the CPU: 9/8/2009 5:21:43 PM Milkyway@home Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 9/8/2009 5:21:43 PM Milkyway@home Requesting new tasks for CPU 9/8/2009 5:21:48 PM Milkyway@home Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks (had to scroll way back to find it, it tries so infrequently for CPU work, that was 7 hours ago). But every couple minutes, it tries to get work for the UNSELECTED GPU. I've tried the suspend trick, didn't help. I've shut down and restarted the computer, no change. Its as if your project loved my PC for a couple days, then realized it had the clap and won't call anymore :( |

Guess you're just not interested, I'll detach and go away. |

Are you using Boinc 6.6.36? If so change, it doesn't work well with MW. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Hi Larry Try changing the boinc version to a newer version. ;-p Bruce |

i have the same issue when trying to run this project as well... i am not the newest member to the Bionic family, but i am obviously confused...?... wont send me work because: "it wont finish in time, Bionic only runs 86% of the time, computation 72% enabled of that" "Can't use Nvidia GPU App, your GPU lacks the needed features" 1-why does my MW-Bionic the only one to have issues? 2-why does MW-Bionic the only one to not work on the not-so older GPUs (3xSLI 9600gt) AND my new EVGA Nvidia gtx260. (just wont run ANY data at all on ANY GPU) 3-why wont MW-Bionic run on a CPU? i thought my topline MainBoard and topline CPU w/ 4 cores and 8 processing threads could help??? no? i am obviously butt-hurt about this! i didnt rreallize Bionic App Communities had degraded to the point that ONLY the undisclosed ELITE get to proccess data for them... i have detached MW project. I am VERY dissapointed after reading all the issues you have AND the way you seem to just dismiss people... After excluding 80% of people from helping you compute, do you actually have a chance of meeting deadlines or expected milestones? or do you have no expectations? Ah, who cares right, its just free money, and free gfx cards... maybe someone who is paying that "free money" will care how it is managed. Lets find out, they probably wont, but everyone eventually pays attention after enough ppl speakk up. Best wishes to the better of your team! FYI might help: only the new GPUs actually support PhysX type proccessing. i imagin it is somehow related to the 2x precision stuff MW-B is excluding people over... in your Nvidia control panel, disable physX (on by default) if you have a GPU under the Nvidia GT2xx series. this will resolve the exponential degredation in the processing of gfx, speed up OTHER bionic app processing(obviously not MW-B, they wont send you work.), and most importantly prevent GPU realated lockups... hope that helps you ppl havin issues. |

i have the same issue when trying to run this project as well... i am not the newest member to the Bionic family, but i am obviously confused...?... First off, I'm making two assumptions - (1) that your cache is set to greater than three days, and (2) that you're running BOINC v6.6.36. MW has three day deadlines, so if your cache setting is larger than that, it causes work fetch problems. BOINC 6.6.36 has a known bug in the work fetch scheduler, try using v6.6.20 or 28. I have no problem getting CPU work on my C2D laptop using a 1+1 cache and BOINC 6.6.28. MW requires double-precision capabilities, which is why only the higher end cards can be used here. That is the nVidia 260 series and above, and the ATI Radeon 3850, 4830, 4850, 4770, 4870, and 4890 (currently). Calm Chaos Forum...Join Calm Chaos Now |

I wish I had a bionic system. Then I wouldn't need an ATI card to achieve super credit status. me@rescam.org |

I get the same message... first of all, I had a XFX9800GT, message was that I didn't have the necessary ATI hardware. I went out today and purchased a Sapphire 5770 1 Gb DDR5 board and now, it tells me that I don't have the necessary hardware... What DO I need to run this project with a GPU? The computer is running a AMD 965 Quad with 4Gb ram XP Pro with the latest version of Boinc. |

GPU Requirements http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_thread.php?id=1505 The 57xx series is single precision while MW needs double precision. |
