Can anyone five me a definative answer as to the 4770 usability in MW? I seem to be reading "it should work", but I haven't read any actual "works for me". XP-32 or Vista-64 .... or, for that matter, W7-64 |

The only person who has recently reported a working HD 4770 is JockMacMad TSBT. He is using driver version ATI_Catalyst_Windows7_8.612_no_CCC.exe with no Catalyst Control Center installed and Windows 7. This 8.612 driver is the Microsoft WHQL version of the driver contained in Catalyst 9.5. Here is the relevant post |

Thanks - I had not noticed that post. I guess I'll postpone making a decision on new videocard - looks like we may know this week about ATI's new cards - 1600/800 shaders $300/$200??? - and maybe get some sort of indication of actual availability. Now does not seem a good time to be looking at nVidia cards - ATI introductions may put them under severe price pressure. |

"The top of the line, a single PCB Dual GPU card called the 5870X2, will hit the stores at $599. The single GPU version will be called the 5870 and will set you back only about $399. The 5850, the least expensive video card in the 58xx line, will sell for about $299." Radeon 58xx Pricing |

Unless you plan on purchasing them to only run MW... you will need a very high performance system to unlock the full potential of the 5870x2 and maybe the 5890 in games. A 4870x2 based system will be limited by the cpu (assuming quad core not i7) until you get to about 4GHz cpu clock speed. Benchmarks have shown this since the day these cards were released and will probably be repeated with the new 5xxx series. ![]() ![]() |

At least, when on SETI, I had mine at 4.1GHz for months at a time. Go away, I was asleep ![]() ![]() |

4770 from Gigabyte with Catalyst 9.8 on Win 7 x64 and CCC uninstalled. 3 WU's are done in between 4-5 minutes (with my CPU, what can I ask for?) BTW, if you don't believe me, let's take some screenshots: ![]() ![]() |

The solution would be running a minimum number of other applications in Windows. Running WMP, CCC, and other programs that access the video board while crunching result in driver resets. Flash content in IE8 also interferes with the video board, so I usually suspend MW before browsing rich-content web pages or running games. Cornel |

Finally, after changed to ATI_Catalyst_Windows7_8.612_no_CCC.exe crunching with 4770 is looklike more stable now. |

Did you have to "turn off" or disable anything to get this to work? |

I had my fair share of problems with Club3d new model 4770 this models you can see on the XFX site XFX The first i got was the YDLC model from club3d the new i bought is the old model YDFC and this one works out of the box on all os with version 9.4 The weird thing is the newer model was not even found by gpu-z later i understood that the these models report as having a core number rv XX3 or xx4 and that seems to me the problem with the drivers since these cards only get found by the newest drivers 9.7 and up So old model 4770 will work easy and no problems newer model will work but with problems Its new, its relative fast... my new bicycle |

I had my fair share of problems with Club3d new model 4770 this models you can see on the XFX site As I understand it the YDFC is the higher end reference model with superior cooling, also usually more expensive. Both are current. Mine runs MW fine in WinXP32, BOINC v6.10.3, NVidia v9.8 drivers only (no CCC) as long as I leave it as a dedicated cruncher. It's OK to use all the CPUs for BOINC and will run fine for days, but If I try to run other apps that write to the screen it gets video resets. Question, how to lower the HD 4770 memory speed without using CCC, since CCC causes problems? |

Question, how to lower the HD 4770 memory speed without using CCC, since CCC causes problems? That's easy. Lower it -> close CCC -> crunch |
