Found Collatz.
WU#1 - ETA = 800+hrs on my i7 940 @ 3.4GHz
Found opti app - WU#1 ETA = 25hrs on 4870, in reality ~5mins. Too bad my cache keeps emptying, perhaps I better write a script to keep it fed...
Cheers,

PeterV

Yea, I know. That's the sweet thing about it. We know in advance of the outage.

Just because there are only 2 projects with working ATI apps and one is down the other one is getting flooded with work request and getting its hard drives filled up.

When I ran out of work on friday night I decided to give the computers the weekend off from crunching. Nice to see the 28 - 30C temps after seeing the 55 - 57 C temps for so long. Maybe I'll even see a slightly noticeable decrease in the electric bill this month. NOT !!!

Been crunching Collatz for 24 hours now and the credit being awarded to my ATI cards is approximately 50% of what I get here at MW, so it a very useful backup project. But yes, it is being swamped at the moment.

I prophesised at the beginning of the year that the advent of GPU crunching would have a significant effect across the whole of Boinc, as most projects were simply not initially set up to cater for the sheer volume of data that needs to be dealt with. Seti, Milkyway, and now Collatz are all finding their servers and infrastructure struggling to cope. And I'm sure there will be others.

Even cpdn, with no plans for gpu, has server probs.
Mostly to do with the sheer amounts of data returned, many TB now, but then its been going for 6yrs, which has to be collated, stored, and made available to cliate scientists around the world.
Cheers,

PeterV

I would argue that as more projects release GPU applications the problems will decrease as there will be some spreading ...

At the moment for example I beat on GPU Grid for work for my Nvidia cards because that is the most reliable project I can find for CUDA work with the best pay and, well, there is little reason to attach another project to my machines for those GPUs.

For my one ATI card I try to do MW work and maybe later I will fold in COllatz more reliably when BOINC can properly handle multiple GPU projects...

If and when Einstein gets its act together and has a more pure GPU application I will be more interested in attaching them to my GPUs ...

That Collatz has skewed up my signature. Now I have another project with big(ish) credits coming through ;)
