Once they get it in stock I will purchase one and hopefully by then it will be supported by the ATI app if it isn't already. If someone gets the card sooner please let us know.

Are you getting one TGG, and putting it in the last empty PCE-e 2.0 x16 slot on the MoBo of your Q9550?

If so, then you would need to stick with Catalyst 8.12 as the other 20 HD48xx cards your machine runs will stop Milkywaying. ;))

LOL...I wish! I haven't even seen it listed at the shops I frequent yet. And the sad thing is I don't have a spare slot, so I'd have to dump the 4850. It would be a challenge to get the 4870 and 5870 running side-by-side, but I'd like to think the latest catalyst should work OK...but currently why fix something that ain't broke?

These are certainly going to keep some houses warm this winter. With an idle power draw of 27W, rising to 188W under full load, these bricks will draw enough power to dim and flicker street lighting even if you had the PSUs to run them.

And I used to wonder why they had started selling 1kW PSUs...
When someone gets one could they confirm that it runs MW with ccc 8.12 and post here.
I see you've changed your makeup, Ice.

I was looking at the ATI web site, and decided to check the drivers for the 5800 series. There is new driver for the 5800 series for Vista and Windows 7, but could not find one for xp 5800 Series driver. I'm running windows 7 but think I will wait until the card had been tested on the MW site. Also with the new driver I do not believe I could use my 4850 with a 5870.

Exactly my plan... my wife freaked out when she walked in my home office tonight - I got the optimized app working last night! Yaya... It was 25 degrees hotter in the room..

So moving 4870 to HTPC i'm building for downstairs, and hopefully a 5800 series in my main rig....

Video of optimized app running them in 43 seconds at 825 core/975 mem clocks

Don't think I'll be purchasing one anytime soon - I have had issues with 48X0x2 and 4890s don't seem to work for everyone. Time to watch & wait for the moment...... and don't forget the price gouging that is currently going on out there on these cards - currently in the UK a single 5870 costs more than 3 4870s! I'll wait until there are more available for sale and someone has got them working!

lol yea i wouldn't even touch these card yet and let the poorboys out there or other rich dudes test it to run with mw
But my guess is they won't since most 4770/4890 users including me have trouble get these cards to run with MW/Collatz
These new models have newer and optimized parts when you read the info about the improvements.
And second you never get enough units to FEED these monsters anyway
The guy with the 2 x 4890 can't get enough work to feed his cards allready
this 58XX seems to do the work of those 2 with ease.
On the other hand if someone would be kind and donate me them for testing i would ofcourse offer myself up for this taks xD

Its new, its relative fast... my new bicycle

My electricity bill was through the roof even before GPUs were invented. CPUs use electricity too. :)

lol true mine dropped over 1800 euro when i was not crunching
but i admit new hardware and crunching on gpu is less expessive then a few years ago, in that time i had a fleet of machines running to get only few hundreds of points.
If we compare to nowadays its insane i remember me having 8000 credits on ancient seti it took me many years to get those with my excellent 80286 machines and my superfast 386 - 16 Mhz.

In theory, should the 5870 work with the existing client? Sorry if its been said and I just missed it. Thanks!

Little beyond my price range, I am doing good just having a 4830 and a 4650.

Maybe I should to celebrate my just-confirmed escape from the clutches of redundancy. But then I still try to maintain that there's a Canon 5D MKII with my name on it ;)

I wonder what the people buying them are doing with them. Admiring them while having them lie on their desks?
