Lets wait how the NEW credit reduction is gonna be hmmmm... I was considering running some MW again in a week or two when I hit 100k on rosetta, now I am going to definately wait to see how the credits work out. (also see if the server doesn't go kerpow again) Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Lets wait how the NEW credit reduction is gonna be The irony is that people complained for years about cross-project parity, and when steps are made to try and address that problem more complaints come across :) The new credit scheme is honestly just a way to track credit in a project independent manner so when new projects come along they don't have to deal with all the credit issues. I know you all want to think there's some big brother keeping you down in the credit ranks, but honestly Dave and the rest of us really want to make it so that credit is distributed correctly across projects in some kind of fair manner. Honestly, we're really not so smart, which is why it's not been so good in the past. The new credit scheme is to try and make things better, really :) |

Travis, i am afraid all the crunchers with gpu will move to Collatz. Not me, I am here for the science. Points are nice, but I can't spend them. Having said that, in return for lowered points, I expect a better run with workflow. Mind you, I crunch Cosmology as well, and the points for that are truly pathetic. |

Travis, i am afraid all the crunchers with gpu will move to Collatz. The credits at Cosmo are not the only pathetic thing there, I wont go back until the whole thing is restored to its earlier efficiency( b4 the last major crash) the app they use now is too memory intensive, the one I was running b4 was quite good no problems at all. OK rant finished, very dissapointed in cosmo at this time. :( |

Only a few (the so called credit cops) ever complained about high credit and cross-project parity (which is a myth by the way). When you actually start talking about lowering credit, then is when you hear from the masses (read that as majority) of volunteers. And yes, if you lower credits you will see an exodus of volunteers from your project. You can bank on that.
That is not the way I read it. It talked about controlling the credit for all projects from the BOINC software. That takes the choice away from the project admins.
Like I said, taking the choice away from the project admins. So much for "free enterprise"! |

Everytime when a project gives out more credits then the precious Yeti some kinda Credit Cops (Yeti lovers) or mister D.A comes along. And i talk about all projects not only MW but at all projects which gave more credits then Yeti And everytime these start whining about the high credits and that it should be much lower, i see the same again on collatz and have seen them post on Gpugrid. And i am sure that they post on projects which give high credits on cpu projects as well. I can promise you and your buddy D.A. it drives whole hordes of people away. My team had in his primetime 3800+ members and at present only a few are left. This team has been several times nr.1 but due to this constant nagging about credits many stopped. Ofcourse people come and go but when hardcore members say they no longer have fun because of the previous mentioned crap, then i think boinc (D.A.) is on the wrong way. I allready posted on another forum that i decided that when i get to a certain goal i am gonna shut down the machines. Because i am sick of the constant credit mess, i still think that there is too much credit lowerings for nothing because 1.) It costs nothing, 2.) It can't buy me anything. So in other words i think lowering credits serves absolut no other purpose then bring Yeti in the spotlight again >.< Its new, its relative fast... my new bicycle |

When someone spends $150 up to $500 for a Video card, not for gaming but for crunching, they expect more in return that the guy with a Pentium D. You have some people that have invested a lot more than that. So, if parity comes in, where is the incentive to make that investment. For years I was a very passive cruncher. It's only been recently that I've taken a more active role in this. If they bring in parity I can very easily see myself moving on to something else to pass my time without h/d crashes and credit reductions and weeklong outages and the vapor projects and ... Jeff |

Lets wait how the NEW credit reduction is gonna be Not going to say what I think about that. But to me you wouldn't question his dicisions with him grading your thesis papers. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

The irony is that people complained for years about cross-project parity, and when steps are made to try and address that problem more complaints come across :) Only the SETI trolls. The new credit scheme is honestly just a way to track credit in a project independent manner so when new projects come along they don't have to deal with all the credit issues. You haven't been around DC for the 10 years that many of us have. The new credit scheme is DA's latest move to make his poorly run, poorly programmed project number one again since it can't stand on it's own merits. What's not smart is falling for his line of BS. The new credit plan is his way to punish efficient running GPUs (especially ATI) because he can't get them to run well (or at all in ATI's case) on his own project. Most of us have watched his constant antics for years and aren't fooled. You'll do what you want because you know more than those who have been running DC since it's inception. However, you may end up ruining your own project to satisfy someones ego. Don't complain then when it happens. |

MW is Back !! That's the Main Thing !! Crunching WUs for a project you have interest in is way better than staring at an empty Task Queue, regardless whether you get unpteem extra credits than down the street or simply parity or a few less (which simply encourages the optimizations). In any case... MW is Back !! (Travis: Slather on an extra dose of Skin Hardener, and keep an eye on "our" new Server Hard Drives !! And... THANKS !!) |

I'm just glad that another of my favourite projects is up and running again. I've been around in DC at Berkeley from Seti Classic to now, since November 2000. Yep its my 9th anniversary. Heard it all before, seen it all before, crunchers come and they go, projects likewise. We jingle the change in our pockets and put the money on the most likely card, but as in any fairground, the punters mostly lose. But fairgrounds are fun which is why we continue to go to them, we all know what the score is, but we will still do it. The odd Kewpie doll is nice thouigh as in here at the moment :-) Don't drink water, that's the stuff that rusts pipes |

Perhaps someone can help. My system has an Nvidia 9400GX which I know is not suitable for GPU crunching here. I have my preferences set to not use the GPU however the system continues to request GPU tasks and the server continues to tell me it can't run GPU tasks on my GPU. I have reset the project to no avail. I have detached and reattached yet still get the same message: Sending scheduler request Requesting new tasks for GPU Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks Message from server: No work sent Message from server: Can't use NVIDIA GPU app for MilkyWay@Home: Your GPU lacks the needed features Nick |

There have only been a FEW vocal people that cry CPP - Most of the participants with a RAC of over 1000 don't think that CPP is a good thing, and it should not be considered. That is unless you are socialist. Company A can and should pay what company A wants, with no regard to what company B or C is paying. This is free market capitalism. If BOINC wants to become a socialist society then let those projects that want to join such a society join. But it should not be forced on everyone. BOINC = OPEN INFRASTRUCTURE. . |

So if I may be so bold as to ask, what exactly is the new credit 'scheme'? What will the net reduction- I assume it's going to be a reduction ;)- be? |

Travis, i am afraid all the crunchers with gpu will move to Collatz. And many crunchers with CPU-only will leave likewise. To PrimeGrid (Sieve with 64 bit OS) and NFS for example I. |

Looks like we have the new drives installed. I've started things up and running, let me know how they go. We waiting! |

In the Boinc fairground I happen to like the Milkyway stall, I think I'll stick around. Notwithstanding the odd visit to Collatz when the stall is closed. |
