After yesterday's uninstalls/reinstalls, and with MW still not working, I tried reattaching to Collatz [its the only box that runs Collatz, and then only because it won't run MW]. 'cannot connect to server'.

I have 15 Box's running Collatz again since this morning with no problems so I don't think it's on Collatz end where the problem is but on yours or somewhere in between ...

PS: I just tried contacting the Collatz Server again & the contact was made and more work Downloaded ...

So I'm wondering if it might be the wonderful new ccc 9.11 that may be [part of] the problem...
I'm also wondering if the newimproved boinc has a 'what part of the word uninstall do you not understand?' problem, because when, after uninstalling 6.10.13, I went and installed 6.10.18, it guessed correctly where my boinc code and data directories were. So maybe tonight I'll un/reinstall 6.10.18, this time making sure that not only have the directories been deleted but that I've deleted all reference to boinc in registry. Perhaps then I'll be able to reattach to Collatz, and maybe sometime in the far future actually have MW running on that box. But a month on I'm not feeling hopeful.
Cheers,

PeterV

Peter, when you uninstall BOINC is will ALWAYS leave the data directories intact. Only, the client is uninstalled. This is deliberate to facilitate upgrading, and downgrading.

If you want, you can change the location of the data directories at the beginning of the install by clicking on the custom tab.

Cheers.

Not to swing too far off topic here, but are you running anti-virus and all that goodness on this box? I'm having a hard time fathoming what's going on unless there is something creepy crawling around your system and/or the OS install is just hosed.

The CCC drivers have zero to do with network communication, and as such shouldn't even be able to impact your ability to communicate with a project. Can you open the projects web page from the machine in question?

It's more likely the manager is hosed, since that's where all your problems are at the moment. Maybe do an uninstall, then crawl the registry and hand clean it? I've never had to do that for BOINC, though I have had to go get the specific version, install it, and then make it uninstall itself in order to clean up a mess once (i.e. old version stopped, install new version, says it upgraded, nothing worked quite right, uninstalled new version, installed old version, uninstalled old version (from the old version exe), reinstalled new version, tada works again).

Wish I could help more, just haven't experienced anything like this so I don't know how to fix it.

I see your running XP Pro 32-Bit Mostly, I'm running XP Pro 64-Bit on all my Box with the CAT 9.11 Drivers & Client 6.10.18 at Collatz so I doubt the 9.11 Drivers are the Problem especially as they don't have anything to do with your initial connection to Collatz. The Client could be at fault or a faulty Installation.

I'm also wondering if the new improved boinc has a 'what part of the word uninstall do you not understand?' problem, because when, after uninstalling 6.10.13, I went and installed 6.10.18, it guessed correctly where my where my boinc code and data directories were

When Un-Installing BOINC it doesn't Completely Un-Install everything, it leaves behind most of the Data Directory if not all & some of the Program Directory or just the opposite as I'm nor sure which is which. Anyway it will always remember or it should where you last installed BOINC unless you manually Delete the BOINC Directories your self & go into the Registry & Delete all References to BOINC from it.

So having uninstalled boinc [yet again], deleted all boinc-related directories [t'be shure], used regedit to delete all keys that even mentioned boinc [t'be shure, t'be shure], then reinstalled boinc and attached to collatz [it worked this time], I've finally got back to where I was yesterday before I tried to get MW running. And next time I really will wait until the server has been upgraded such that it does the 'detect GPU and d/l the correct science app' thing, no matter how long collatz goes offline for.

Thanks for your help. It didn't work, but then neither did all the other suggestions I've received on this topic.
Cheers,

PeterV

If your using CAT 9.11 & Client 6.10.18 you won't get an app file from Collatz anymore, you'll just get an .exe & .dll, and 4-5 other files and the Wu's but no App file. You can add the App file later is you have a specific need for it but I run all my Box's without the app file.

App file or no app file, at least Collatz works. Thanks, Poorboy.
