hello i am running 2 projects, when im running late to complete i supend the other project,it give around 10% more speed but task manager say,s the 2 core are running at 54% each.id like to run both cores at 100% how do i do that while crunching only 1 wu.thanks |

Windows Taskmanager: (percentage reported) * (number of cpu's reported) = actual percentage. So each task is actually maxing out whatever processor it was running on when it was sampled. If something is reporting >50% then that means that either Windows's scheduler is over counting or the process is multithreaded and using all available processing power. As for pausing a project. The boinc client scheduler has builtin checking that will more or less give you the exact same result without the need of babysitting the work units. If it believes that it cannot make deadlines, it will reorganize the tasks so that those with earlier deadlines will run first. After all is handled the scheduler will try to bring the projects back in balance with the set resource share. |

I read somewhere ages ago (sorry for my bad memory) that BOINC won't multi-thread on tasks, so running just one WU will only use one core. I think that's right - I'm open to correction on this. Regards, Rob. |

I'm going to guess the OP is suspending one project as he has a P4 with HyperThreading. I'm not sure if you would in fact get a 10% boost from not running a second unit. I'm thinking it would be less than that. And has been said, you can't make a single threaded app like the crunchers for BOINC projects use more than 1 cpu. So 54% of two cpu's is roughly one cpu and is where it should be. |
