I've increased the WU deadline to 8 days (up from 5). Let me know if this worked.

We've been letting our searches run a bit longer now because we're trying to get more accurate results, and we've also increased the WU size so some CPUs are having problems keeping up. Because of this I think it was a good time to increase the deadline. This might also help our project play a little nicer with other ones. Let me know how it works.

When was it 5 days? It has been 3 for a long time.
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

Hmm, there were actually two places where the deadline was specified (one was 3, the other was 5 days). I moved both to 8 days.

At any rate, given the work we're doing right now, 8 days should be ok for us, and I hope it will make it easier on CPU users to crunch milkyway@home.

Oh, Oh, Oh. Can you also increase the number of wu's we can cache from 6 to 10 or even 15 maybe? :)

Doubt it. Raising the cache has some nasty effects on server performance. It's high enough as it is :(

I'm hoping we'll have funding to upgrade the database hardware this semester, because that's what something like that is going to take.

Is there a daily allowance on WU?
I notice on other project I'm crunching I get " reached daily allowance" and this results in no more WU.

I have 9 systems running at present. 4 are doing Milkyway.

Thanks
Robbie

Actually the WU cache is something different than the daily quota.
For my hosts I am having a maximum daily WU quota per CPU = 5000/day (which means I will never run out of WUs. *grin*)
But the WU cache means I cannot download more than 6 WUs per Core at once. When those WUs are done I'm getting another bunch. ;-)
But if MW is down my cache might be too small to keep my hosts busy.
Example: on my i7 (8 cores) 48 WUs are done very quickly (using the GPU of course).
Lovely greetings, Cori

Thank you for thinking of the children even if they're old and living in my basement :-) The 8 day deadline has made several of my slower processors VERY happy.

The three day deadline with the longer tasks made it too "iffy" for them to finish on time unless the stars were aligned just right (and the black holes kept their distance). Cabbage and Lettuce (I'm a wabbit!) are chortling in glee. They're 70 dog years old. I'm not sure what that is in "computer years" :-)

Thank you for extending the deadline. I also was getting 3 days instead of 5. Since I actually have to do WORK on it as well, this will fit in better with my priorities. The 5 days would have been fine probably. I wonder why I had 3. Anyway, it is not like the stars are going to move much in the meantime.

I assume the Deadline increase was for folks that have problems or are running CPU. I get 24 at a time now and finish them in 96 minutes.
Blah blah blah you know the rest

drtfp? First post says so, yes.

This makes me very happy. In my spare time i'm trying to come up with a good way to measure the efficiency of a computer running as a heater.

This new deadline is working great for me (CPUs only). Before, MW would send BOINC into panic mode as soon as WUs arrived, and screw up debt with my other projects, and stop them from downloading new work. Then one or more other projects would go into panic mode, and downloads and debt would become very messy. Now, MW takes its turn, very nicely, just like all the other projects. Downloads from all projects are occuring on a much more regular basis.

same problem here, with wu cache limits
i have I7 920, with 8 core and a 5970 with 2 core
8core x 6 = 48

but with my GPU i make this in less than one hour. i have problems with my internet connection, so , i often remain without work, during the night , when i sleep and can't do nothing about it. I need a much biger limits, to know that my computer have what to crunch. 10x in advance :D
