Help would be appreciated. I had a minor disk meltdown on my Opteron computer a couple of weeks ago and after I finally everything back running, it has been running only one unit at a time. Prior to the meltdown I was running 3 at a time on the same GPU (4850). AS a consequence, my RAC is down by over half. Can't figure out what went wrong (or is that worng). Addendum: I also went from 100% CPU (2) to 50% (1) because the program says that it is using a small portion (.05) of CPU on the GPU unit. I didn't figure this to be important because I am only running Einstein on the CPU. Man's future lies in the stars, not on Earth. Were you running the stock GPU app or using an app_info.xml file with commandline options? You have the BOINC option "Use GPU while computer in use" ticked? |

Thanks for the reply. I don't know if it is the stock GPU app (no command line). This place has gotten so confusing with so many GPU apps that I wound up using the following: Win64_0.20b_ati The set up was the same as before; rename and add the three ati***** to amd**** to the system32 folder and add the other files to the milkyway BOINC folder. I have the option use GPU all the time because that machine is dedicated to BOINC so I don't do any other computing on it. It would be nice to have a sticky with the unmodified GPU apps linked so that those of us who are not software gurus could find them. Way too many choices for me. Way too many optimized apps. I don't even know where the stock apps are. Thanks, Will Man's future lies in the stars, not on Earth. I believe you need to change a couple values in the app file to allow multiple wus to run. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

I believe you need to change a couple values in the app file to allow multiple wus to run. You do ... But, you actually don't really run three at a time. You run one at a time with hand over so that though it looks like three are running, only 1 is, and when that one is done the next is started. What you see is 3 tasks taking say 6 minutes to do... with only one running at a time you should see the time at 2 min per task (or whatever). Running multiple tasks, or seeming to do so can shave off a second or so in processing time, but it is not enough to lose sleep over. Personally, I dropped the app info anon platform and am running the stock GPU applications and have had fewer (actually none) issues especially in running with other projects (Collatz and GPU Grid et al) ... |

Thanks, but as I stated earlier, I don't even know where the "stock" app is. What I have seen is there is one for ATI and one for AMD. The meltdown I mentioned was a (self imposed) disk crash, so I had to reload everything from here and BOINC. Maybe I got something wrong. Man's future lies in the stars, not on Earth. AS far as not running 3 at a time, what I do know is that my RAC has dropped from 40,000+ to about 20,000- so something is definitely different and wrong. Thanks |

Thanks, but as I stated earlier, I don't even know where the "stock" app is. Either delete the opti app (the files you installed) or reset the project. The files will then download automatically. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Ah! Thanks. The answer I was looking for. :) Resetting now. Man's future lies in the stars, not on Earth. It is each successive generation's responsibility to humanity to expand the knowledge and understanding of our Universe so that we may one day venture forth to meet our neighbors. |

I run with an app_info as I found that the b-1 command line option reduces my running time by about 40 seconds. Stock:____5:48 app_info:_5:06 With a 4830 I average around 58000/day.
