For about week now the Milkway@home project has not been able to do any work. I always get a Computation Error in the log and the status of the project always says Communication Deferred. This started at the same time that Seti@Home went down and started producing errors. Seti@home appears to back up now. I cannot find any info for the status of Milkyway@home and searches for such topics produce 0 results.

Milkyway@home has been previously working just fine for a very long time.

This is some of the log. (I have tried rebooting, resetting the project, updating)

23/02/2010 16:42:26	Milkyway@home	Task ps_s222_opt_2_v04_3789843_1266943210_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file

23/02/2010 16:42:26	Milkyway@home	[error] Process creation failed: Access is denied. (0x5)

There was also some "computation error" messages, but I have to wait for the latest tasks to "complete" again before it will print it in the log once more.

Is this a problem on my end or is there something wrong with Milkway@home at the moment?

Thankyou for any assistance.

I would say it's on your end. Did you try to reset as it suggests? Maybe a reboot?

First thing to try is to quit BOINC and restart (don't just close the manager).

Second, restart the system (sometimes easier than one above).

Third, if using a router and/or a cable/DSL modem power cycle them also

Fourth, reset the project.

Oh, and chant the correct prayers ... :)

From the looks of the problem description the system has just lost track of the world.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had already tried all of those things. I'm still getting the same problems. I wonder if it is an unknown issue, it wouldn't be the first time there have been problems with these types of projects and the moderators/supervisors were unaware.

I plan to reinstall my system in a few months, so at least if the situation hasn't resolved itself by then I guess it should do afterwards. I'm upset that I wont be able to crunch any numbers for a while, for this project.

You could try to detach and reatach or reinstall Boinc.

I reinstalled boinc today (after I let Seti@home finish the latest task :) ). The Milkyway@home project still says "communicated deferred" on the projects tab. However it downloaded 24 tasks! It is running two of them and they seem to be computing correctly now. The other 22 tasks wont start, not even if I suspend the two that are. I'll have to wait until these 2 are complete to see what happens to the others. But things looks promising I guess.
