Message 1205 - Posted: 31 Dec 2007, 14:46:26 UTC

I have had problems with getting new work the hole day since early morning, either I get a "no work from project" or "http error"...

2007-12-31 15:41:59|Milkyway@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of parameters_generated_1199120773_2542: HTTP error

or then I get this error...

2007-12-29 12:44:48|Milkyway@home|Message from server: (reached per-host limit of 20 tasks)

I think 20 WUs are still very little considering the short WUs, I do 20 WUs in less than 2-3 hours which is less than 1 WU in most other projects...

I don't like posting "me too" posts, but... Me too.

Some work units download immediately, some just won't go at all after hours of retries.

I'm sure there's a good reason for the limit of 20 per computer (which on some of my computers would only last between 15 and 45 minutes total). Not much of a cache for when things go wrong. But there's plenty of other projects to crunch if there's no work here.

I can't download any either. I get 'communication failed'. I think when the sys. rebooted it went to default settings only allowing 20 wu's. I have only ever had one wu at a time, I have not been able to figure out how to get more. Other projects are fine.

As banditwolf said, abort any WU that fail to complete downloading AND abort the transfer. As soon as I did that, I got my full 20 WU.

This may not always work. I have one system that continues to have the this problem after aborting the downloads. I also have one system that may have a full set of 20 of these as it last contacted the server at about the same time that this problem started. I won't have access to that system for a couple of days so I can't comfirm this until then.

I'm in a similar position, i only have access to some of my machines so when i get a failed WU download on a system i don't have daily access, the project suffers as all my machines run other projects so they'll just switch to them until i can abort the transfer. Not an ideal situation.....

Smart idea, how ever the WUs stuck seems to be growing in number, first time I had 1 WU stuck in transfer, next time I had 4, and now I got 6 WUs stuck in transfer ...

Yes, but you have to be attentive. It appears that one in 5 is currently failing at 30% downloaded with a http: error that never recovers and blocks additional work from the project.

I have cleared them three times already today on different machines on different networks so it does not appear to be on my side of things.

The good news is I can get about an hour's worth of work when I go through the process. The bad news is I have to go through the process every hour or so to keep the machines crunching.

Yes it appears that everyone is having the download error that blocks the other WUs. Can anyone say Alpha? Hopefully this can be resolved soon. Guess this just serves as a reminder to have a back up project that can take over if something goes wrong.

Has anybody had a 'gs_90' wu run? At least half of the stuck units are 90's.

I've had plenty of gs_90's run ...

Most of my stuck wu are 70's and 80's.

The only WU I've so far had refuse to download is #1741653.

I cancelled it after I noticed that a previous host had also found it impossible to download (though I left it for over a day before finally cancelling it). I'm assuming missing file(s) on the server...?

I just DLed a bunch of new ones, after aborting 2 stuck ones, and five of the 15 got stuck, for me it looks quite random.

Thank you!! I've been trying to get new work all day and three units refused to download.

The only correlation I can see is they all fail at a very similar byte count (0.32 kB). I have had 6/6 fail or 1/6 fail. Rarely do I get 6/6 succeed. Getting a full load of 20 usually takes a half dozen purges of the transfer list and tasks list and then an update.

But, such is the way with alpha projects. I am getting work while others who don't monitor their boxes aren't ;)

Abort the transfers on those that don't D/L. Means essentially manually getting work. Slow but it works.
