Abort them as they appear to be missing files....any that will not d/l abort immediately...don't waste your time

I would abort the Wu and the transfer that would still be listing and then update. Sometimes you get several that are like this and other times you will get all working WUs.

Unless you abort, your client won't report and no further work will be sent to you.

The problem appears to be with missing directories, or permissions.

I just had a look through my client_state.xml and had a look for some of the files it asked for in the milkyway download directory. In most cases the directory did not appear to exist on the server.

If it ain't there (or set up with permissions that forbid us from seeing it), one's not gonna get it.

If that is the case wouldn't all downloads fail.

Some of them are successful

He did say 'most'. Anyway, keeping this going requires too much upkeep right now.. wish boinc would just get rid of the stuff that won't download and move on, doing it by hand is too tiresome.

Does the project team have an idea as to what is causing this problem?
I joined last night and had close to 2 dozen fail in downloading to my libc 2.5 computer.
My libc 2.3.6 computer just failed everything, is there a fix for this "libc" problem?

Thanks for the reply JRenkar,
I did read the front page news, the libc problem dates back well prior to Christmas going on the forum threads, so I was wondering if any progress had been made in that area.

Hi,

The problem appears to be with missing directories, or permissions....

I doubt that very much. The problematical files partially download and usually "stick" at around 30% or so....more likely file/filesystem corruption.

In any case, it really doesn't matter from our perspective. All that matters is that we can't get the file, speculating as to why is pretty pointless.

It'll get fixed in due course.

The 30% it gets is most likely the error page saying "403 forbidden" which is about 330 bytes in size.

But yes, I'm sure it will sorted out in due course.

....mutter, mutter....I never thought of that....mutter, mutter.... ;-)

I was forgetting how BOINC works "under the hood", you make a very good point.

Each bad Work Unit will fail 5 times before being purged, hopefully we'll start seeing a drop-off as these numbers are reached.

Most of the WUs from which my “Client error / Downloading” tasks came are already at “Too many error results”.
