Walmart keeps doing these things, and it seems that they keep getting away with it.

About 18 months ago, they denied health insurance for an employee who got in an auto accident, they wanted this woman to pay back the medical insurance they had paid her because she was now getting insurance from the government. It nearly broke the family. Outrageous! it made CNN news, there were thousands of us that jumped on it, and started a national boycott, I don't know if you guys remember but I changed my name to BOYCOTT WALMART at the time. It was after the boycott and the bad press they started loosing money in their stores, they decided to allow the woman to keep the insurance money. Opps -

Walmart is NOT good for America, is not good for anyone. It needs to go down. It has become the bully on the block. It helps no-one. It kills local economies, and it's low price everyday, is killing the small guys. Those that supply goods and services to Walmart are fucked because they must be so competitive, that only the big players can be suppliers. It had destroyed more small business's than you can count, both in the store front, and in the supply chains.

Walmart bullies isself into communities, opens up a store, the smaller mom and pop places that have been there for years are forced to close because they can no longer compete, and then Walmart, the nice people they are, will employee those same people they forced out of work for $12.00 an hour. And Walmart comes out looking like a hero, because they are providing employment! What a bunch of fucked up shit that is!

It is hard for me to boycott Walmar anymore than I already am.
I will NEVER shop and Walmart, the last time I set foot in a Walmart for shopping was over 10 years ago, and I am doing just fine without them.

WAKE UP AMERICA! TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY - no need to outsource thousands of jobs to these big companies. Start to employ American Citizens with jobs, not the illegal aliens and over seas workers that will work for pennies on the dollar.

This I can agree with. When they first came around years ago the stores were great and cheap. Now they are trashy and more expensive. The one nearby got itself there by "donating" to the city. It has the higest crime rate of anything I know of. Casinos are also bullying themselves in. After years of voting them down they pay off a few people and bingo casinos.

The local community can sometimes pull off a boycott.

A small market town in Norfolk has a couple of supermarkets but Tesco wanted in.

They got through local authority planning permission, despite opposition from the town folks. When it was built and opened the protesters persuaded the town folk to continue shopping in the other supermarkets and local shops.

After 6 months of no footfall, Tesco closed their new store and slunk away.

The local community won in Surbiton (3m away) just recently, when Tescos walked away after a 3 year concerted campaign against them triumphed.

Sadly, in my dads home town of Seaton in Devon, they have bought up the local holiday camp site, and will be bringing in thousands of tons of rubble by sea, to raise a flood plain to create another superstore. No one wants that or them, but East Devon District Council gave them planning permission.

Yes of course all the local people could boycott the store, but knowing Tesco, if the store became uneconomical to run, they would convert it to a regional depot. Then the town would have heavy lorries rumbling through 24/7.

A 7.5 tonne limit, with no access for heavier vehicles, on all the access roads to the old holiday camp would put paid to any conversion criteria if the store failed commercially.

I've never seen a Walmart either, but in the UK we have the Bluewater shopping centre, at Dartford, near the M25 motorway in northwest Kent. And also Lakeside Shopping Centre and retail park some 9 miles away in West Thurrock, Essex.

Both are massive shopping centres or Malls, with hundreds of stores on one site, and probably equivalent to these Walmart things. I refuse on principle to buy stuff there as I will not encourage commercial conglomerates. But I will support my local businesses and shops which rely upon my patronage to survive.

Like Moon, I have never seen nor been in a Walmart store. Although they bought Asda in the UK, a store I don't use.

That is the same as our furniture flat pack stores - I have never seen nor been in an IKEA store. Thank goodness.
