I've sent out some workunits for the milkyway3 application. Let me know if you're having any problems with them.

I am still running the appl_info file for the GPU 0.23 client. I see the following reports in BM's messages tab -

20/04/2010 08:47:30 FreeHAL@home update requested by user
20/04/2010 08:47:32 FreeHAL@home Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
20/04/2010 08:47:32 FreeHAL@home Not reporting or requesting tasks
20/04/2010 08:47:37 FreeHAL@home Scheduler request completed
20/04/2010 08:48:06 Milkyway@home update requested by user
20/04/2010 08:48:07 Milkyway@home Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
20/04/2010 08:48:07 Milkyway@home Requesting new tasks for GPU
20/04/2010 08:48:12 Milkyway@home Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
20/04/2010 08:48:12 Milkyway@home Message from server: No work sent
20/04/2010 08:48:12 Milkyway@home Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a version of MilkyWay@Home Version 3.

Should I now be thinking of resetting the project for the 3client?

Go away, I was asleep

There isn't an ATI application for it yet. I'm doing some of the preliminary testing to make sure the workunits are being generated and results reported correctly. If looks like our CUDA apps are having problems at the moment... but we should be adding the ATI applications soon.

There are also some other changes we need to make in the new application. John Vickers just got back to me with the latest astronomy code (with a new model to test), so I'm in the process of updating the code and making sure that works. Should have a new version of the application source out later today.

I'm recently receiving such message. I'm running crossfire ATI and the option of "use if nvidia gpu if present" is no in my preferences.

Travis - thanks

I will leave things as they are until you give the big nod that the new searches and WUs are out.

It looks like my BM messages have returned to normal -

20/04/2010 10:08:17 Milkyway@home Requesting new tasks for GPU
20/04/2010 10:08:22 Milkyway@home Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks

I just finished 8 of the version 3 WU. Computer ID 137302

6 of the 8 had typical run times but 2 had 3x the normal run time. All 8 completed successfully and are waiting for validation. Below is the link to one WU with 3x the runtime.

Are you referring to Version 30.01? If so I have two running and the % progress bar shows no change after 4-5 hours

My mistake, it's MilkyWay 3 Version 0.01.
Anyway it did process and is awaiting validation. Just no progress shown on % bar.

Yeah there was an issue with the GPU binaries. I think Anthony has fixed it though -- if not he's currently working on it.

I'm going to have to get one of the astronomers to post for more information, but it will allow us a few more things:

1. a more detailed background model of the milky way -- the one we've been using has some issues that we've been trying to address and I think the new application will go some ways to fixing these. basically since no one knows what the background model of the milky way is, we need to different models to find that out. having one that really matches would be a really significant scientific discovery.

2. more detailed information about the fitness of the models. right now the applications are only returning the total fitness of the background model + all the dwarf galaxy tidal streams. the new application will report all of these individually, so we can try new optimization methods that will optimize over each of those individually, which hopefully will help with some of the inconstancies we see from not really knowing what the background model is.

I should have the validator up and running for the new application today so these will be getting credit. I'm going to see what's up with the progress bar.

I ran a couple off on CUDA and I did not see anything wrong with the progress bar ... maybe I missed it? ... I may have a couple more in the queue...

No way to tell if they are good or not till the validator gets turned on ... seemed to have about what I would expect for run times ...

CUDA ones seem to returning results fine now that Anthony updated the applications. You guys should be getting credit for them tonight.

And some of us can hardly wait! :)

Question, is V 3 the one where there is no output files that I heard you talk about? Or is that a feature still to come?

V3 is the one with no output files (and no input parameter file), yes.
