Message 1354 - Posted: 5 Jan 2008, 10:38:51 UTC

For my laptop (2100), it take about 33-35 minute for 'odd numbered' WU's (i.e. gs_74_1199384298_41763_0), and 13-15 minutes for 'even numbered' WU's (i.e. gs_80_1199384296_41713_0).
Is there anyone else with longer processing times?

I can assure you that my 400MHz K6-2 laptop is MUCH slower ...

Hmm, maybe I should put my 266MHz Celeron (overclocked to a whopping 300MHz) to the test! Have to find a network card for it first though.

9-10 min for short ones, and 20-22 for the longer ones on a P4 2.66ghz.

Hmmmm my 1.4 celery laptop takes about the same, time wise vs credit wise i'm actually losing out on the shorter ones ... but oh well it all adds up in the end

Sure! My Mac G4/733 takes about 3000 s (50 minutes) for the 6.5-CS tasks and about 1000 s (17 minutes) for the 2-CS ones.

My slowest is a 500MHz P3, it averages 7430s (2+ hours) for the longer ones and 2720s(45 min) for the shorter ones.

Maybe i got the tortoise then, i have an old P2 448 Mhz. It's crunches long wus at a little over 7900 seconds and the shorter at a speedy 3060 seconds.

I did have my PII 400 crunching for a while but switched it to another project that I have a lower priority for, and moved MAH to the PIII 500.

My P-II 300 takes about 4600 seconds to do the short ones and 12,000 seconds for the long ones.

Do I win? ;)

Mine are very, very fast...

370.72 for short WUs (around 6 min)
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=2028692

to 1,142.77 (19 min) for long ones !
http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=2032334

Must say I love my computer ...

BTW, did you know that you get slightly better credit for the odd number WUs (the long ones)
with a ratio of approx. 175 Sec per CS compared to approx. 187 Sec per CS for the short ones

No records here for slowest computer and probably not the fastest either, but my fastest computer does the short Wu in approx. 168 seconds (just under 3 minutes) and the longer ones in approx. 481 seconds (just over 8 minutes)

Not here. My three-year-old Mac will do a long one in just over 18 mins and a short one in just over 4 mins. Expressed by your method, that's 167 sec/credit for long and 126 sec/credit for short.

So you take the long ones, Crystallize, and I'll take the short ones. We'll both come out in front.

Although the difference is about half what you’re seeing, that’s qualitatively true of my G4/733 (mentioned upthread). However, it’s quite the opposite on my 2.3-GHz dual G5, with a much greater difference:
s/CS Short Long Difference
G4 490 475 – 3%
G5 100 135 +35%

(Unscientifically eyeballed figures—but there isn’t a large variance in the data, so they should be reasonably accurate.)

Our posts crossed … Sounds like you have a 2-GHz twin G5. The difference might have to do with the CPU architecture. Any other platforms that seem to like the short tasks better?

Mine is so-so on the short tasks- especially lately, where I now have a 50/50 shot of 'overclaiming'- but my 'Celeron M 1.4 GHz' Laptop (from Dell, no less) really likes the longer Work Units; the shorties tend to claim 1.8-2.6 Cred/WU while the long's claim about 4.5-4.6 (with the occasional 5.x).

10-11 min for short ones, and 28-32 for the longer ones on a P4 2.4ghz.

About the same on the P4 3.06 but doing two at a time.
