hello, the control panel on my cards only allows the memclock to be dropped to 490 which i have read can be dropped to way lower than that to save on noisy fans !!! ( plus power i suppose ) is there a simple tweak in the software to lower the default number from 490 lower ? best regards Ian |

Use ATI Tray Tools for ati cards, and disable OC limits to drop below CCC mem clock. |

ATI Tray Tools is third-party software, its not included in the drivers; it's very well known though. Try Googling it. |

hi, i found it downloaded it and its causing all sorts of trouble maybe i should explain i'm not running 1 card on my machine i'm running 3 and its sending all three all over the place it refuses to keep the memclock below 490 apart from on one card it jammed on 390 and i couldnt move it up or down can this peice of software not control more than 1 card ? and even if it can why is it so unstable ? best regards Ian |

Just go into the config file and enter the desired speed. Below is an example of sorting out gpu & memory speeds, and fan speed from a session at Guru3d (good site and great forum if you not been there before): Guru3d - Setting core, memory and fan speeds Its with a 5970, but the principle is the same for any card. The value for gpu and memory speed is shown three times in CCC, so you will see three -places to change in the config file depending what you what to do. Initially it can be confusing which one represents which value of the three in CCC - I suggest you set each value the same for a category (eg gpu clocks), look at the effect in CCC, then change just one of the three for gpu clocks - that way its obvious which setting changes what figure in CCC. As memory speed is irrelevant at MW, use memory speed as your "Trial" at setting the values direct in the config file - set it for 300 (have seen many cards work ok 150-200Mhz memory). That way you get used to the way the config file works before increasing a value like gpu clocks. Usual health & wealth warning - you are changing the values in the config file direct with no hand holding from an app like ATI Tools - its safe if done step by step, but you do so at your own risk .... thanks, still have a problem I've made a new profile changing all the mentions of mem clock down from 49000 to 20000 saved it all and went into profiles and activated it unfortunately nothing is happening the lowest i can get the memclock down to is still 490 its as if its ignoring the new profile completely i've checked the new profile it saved ok is there something i'm missing ? i dont want to overclock the card really just get the temps down best regards Ian |

Yes it should, if its not, then its one of two things - either the changed profile is being saved in a different directory than the one the application expects, or its not being changed exactly as per the Guru3d example (that example one does scroll down within the forum post) |

Hi, the file is in the correct directory as the ccc found it and let me activate it just nothing changed msi afterburner is a nightmare it wont let me change anything everytime i put a number in the box i want to choose it sits their or just goes to it's default which is 735 which is even worse than the ati ccc 490 there is a bit for making profiles at the bottom but if you cant enter the numbers you want whats the point anybody any ideas why the numbers i type in just vanish to be replaced by MSI's own default numbers all the time ? best regards Ian |

I had the same issue with MSI - in the end I just concentrated on the CCC profile as described in the article, particularly the example one that was cut & pasted in there. Having got the low mem clocks and manual fan setting into the profile, and saved under a separate name once it came up in CCC after changing the config file, I went from there. I found trying to mess with MSI at the same time just complicated the issue to no avail. Having got the CCC profile sorted re clock speeds, I used the AMD overvolt tool to set the voltage. Having done that, I saw it reflected inside the CCC config profile, saw where to change voltage direct, and from there it was easy, no separate third party tools needed. Regards Zy |

hi, I've now given up with the msi thing although it looks very pretty it does nothing i have tried every which way to change the profile xml file but it just keeps changing the mem clock back to 490 when i start the control center up again is there somewhere else this default setting is kept that keeps overwritting the default profiles xml every time the control panel starts up ? best regards Ian |

Its in : C:\Users"logged in user name"\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles For me its "C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profiles" AppData not Application Data All saved profiles are in that directory. Open up CCC - go top right - Options menu - select Profiles-Profile manager, Enter a Profile name, select the "all settings" radio button, then select Save top right of that screen. That will register the profile in the CCC profile database (xml file) Whatever Profile Name you saved will now be in that directory. Open up that profile with Notepad, change your values you are targeting, save the file in notepad so you overwrite the original (its an xml file). Next time you open CCC, go to profile manager, select that profile to activate. From that point follow your nose, you should be good to go. Whenever you change anything in CCC, if you want it saved in the profile go back to profile manager and save all settings as before, or save it under a new name. I know it sounds complicated, its not, just wordy trying to explain it Regards Zy |
