Hi, I am registering my objection at your site's use of my broadband during my peak period. I use my computer for work during my peak/active period and tonight I saw active downloads coming from this BOINC site (I have my preferences set to download between 00:10 & 11:50 GMC+10). I have completely disconnected from Spinhenge as they wouldn't even let me logon to object. I need my peak broadband for work. I don't mind donating my off-peak broadband for university purposes, but, not when it starts to interfere with my work capacity. This happened with Leiden, Milkyway & Spinhenge tonight. I am not happy. I will dis-connect from your project if I see this happen again. I want to help, but, only using my spare capacity (read off-peak)...... |

By using the settings you have are you just not allowing network usage between 00:10 to 11:50 instead of between 11:50 to 00:10. Mind you the network usage is very small in any case. |

The project doesn't control when you do Internet access, you do. Obviously something is incorect with your Boinc settings. I don't use these option so I can't give precise advice on these setting. These are general things to check. Are you using the web based or local Boinc settings? If web based, did you do a project update to let the Boinc software know you made the change. Are you sure do have the correct time setting. The time is your time, not the projects time zone. Have you selected 'Network activity based on preferences' in the Advanced view - Activity menu. If using web based setting, have you cleared the local preference setting since these will override changes made at the project preferences. If you pressed 'OK' button to exit local manager preferences, even if you didn't make any changes, they will override the web based settings. The Boinc message log will record if and when the network access was stopped. |

The wus are quite small. Only the stars***.txt files are 3mb in size, but those are not downloaded every time boinc connect to the project. Only if its the first time you downloaded those batch. So if you have already crunched de_16 wus before, it will not download the stars-16.txt anymore until the next time you do a project reset. The de_*.* files are downloaded in mere seconds just like your example, the wu was downloaded in just 2 secs. Since you are on broadband, a few kb is negligible. Now if you have multiple fast gpus (ie. radeon 5970s), then tasks are downloaded every 1 1/2 mins or so. If you really want to have full control over the downloads and uploads, on the boinc menu under Activity select "Network activity suspended" whenever you are working then un-suspend when you are not working. |

David--this is not the fault of the project. I am sorry but your concerns are mis-directed. Please check the settings on your Boinc program--or shut it off during your peak useage. Thanks |

In my BOINC Manager I have Network Usage Allowed everyday between hours of 00:10 & 11:50. Up until last night, I had not detected any network usage by any of the projects during my Peak Broadband period. I have subsequently gone thru the logs for the past two months and there has not been any network usage during that period, except for manual intervention (which I accept). As it was 3 different projects all at the same time, I guess it possibly could be a glitch in BOINC. My apologies, but, as I need my Peak period broadband for work, I do get a bit touchy about it when things use it without my permission. I will enquire on the BOINC site. |

Hi David, I do a lot of work from home with a huge data transfer. However this was never a problem with my connection. BOINC projects communicates with your system only once in a while, only using little bandwith of the connection. You can see this if you are using windows and start the task manager and then click on the tab "networking". Do a lot of communication then with your work, or download a large file and watch the percentage of network usage. Greetings from, TJ |
