Hi all, I just bought a new Nvidia 470 over the weekend (260 died) and although it crunches SETI GPU WUs fine, all the Milkyways error out. Any suggestions? Attached is my message log: Thanks Dave. 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Starting BOINC client version 6.10.58 for windows_x86_64 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Libraries: libcurl/7.19.7 OpenSSL/0.9.8l zlib/1.2.3 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Running under account David 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6] 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Processor: 4.00 MB cache 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pni ssse3 cx16 nx lm vmx tm2 pbe 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM OS: Microsoft Windows 7: Home Premium x64 Edition, (06.01.7600.00) 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Memory: 4.00 GB physical, 8.00 GB virtual 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Disk: 139.73 GB total, 108.38 GB free 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM Local time is UTC -7 hours 7/27/2010 5:27:08 PM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 470 (driver version 25896, CUDA version 3010, compute capability 2.0, 1248MB, 726 GFLOPS peak) 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM Einstein@Home URL http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/; Computer ID 3129822; resource share 100 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM Milkyway@home URL http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/; Computer ID 196485; resource share 100 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM SETI@home URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 5468831; resource share 100 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM SETI@home General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 04-Mar-2009 23:03:00) 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM SETI@home Computer location: home 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM SETI@home General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM Preferences: 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM max memory usage when idle: 3685.09MB 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM max disk usage: 69.87GB 7/27/2010 5:27:09 PM Not using a proxy 7/27/2010 5:31:32 PM Milkyway@home Computation for task de_15_3s_2_355980_1280276727_0 finished 7/27/2010 5:31:32 PM Milkyway@home Output file de_15_3s_2_355980_1280276727_0_0 for task de_15_3s_2_355980_1280276727_0 absent 7/27/2010 5:31:32 PM Milkyway@home Starting de_15_3s_2_355977_1280276727_0 7/27/2010 5:31:32 PM Milkyway@home Starting task de_15_3s_2_355977_1280276727_0 using milkyway version 24 7/27/2010 5:31:34 PM Milkyway@home Computation for task de_15_3s_2_355977_1280276727_0 finished 7/27/2010 5:31:34 PM Milkyway@home Output file de_15_3s_2_355977_1280276727_0_0 for task de_15_3s_2_355977_1280276727_0 absent 7/27/2010 5:31:34 PM Milkyway@home Starting de_15_3s_2_355976_1280276727_0 7/27/2010 5:31:34 PM Milkyway@home Starting task de_15_3s_2_355976_1280276727_0 using milkyway version 24 7/27/2010 5:31:35 PM Milkyway@home Computation for task de_15_3s_2_355976_1280276727_0 finished 7/27/2010 5:31:35 PM Milkyway@home Output file de_15_3s_2_355976_1280276727_0_0 for task de_15_3s_2_355976_1280276727_0 absent 7/27/2010 5:31:35 PM Milkyway@home Starting de_15_3s_2_355975_1280276727_0 7/27/2010 5:31:35 PM Milkyway@home Starting task de_15_3s_2_355975_1280276727_0 using milkyway version 24 7/27/2010 5:31:36 PM Milkyway@home Computation for task de_15_3s_2_355975_1280276727_0 finished 7/27/2010 5:31:36 PM Milkyway@home Output file de_15_3s_2_355975_1280276727_0_0 for task de_15_3s_2_355975_1280276727_0 absent |

I have had the same problem. MW does not yet have an application for Fermi. Older NVIDIA GPUs work, Fermis don't. They have been testing something a couple of weeks ago but haven't released it yet. Regards, Michael |

I've got a 480 and have been having same problems, glad to see I'm not the only one. Does this mean that until they release the Fermi code all the downloaded Gpu units will just waste space on our computers till they release the fix? Seems better if they'd just released a detection program that goes "Uh Oh Fermi unit better not download the Gpu units;-p |

Guys turn off gpu in your preferences on the website for the host computer you have your fermi in so you do not get GPU work units for now until the new app is released if you have remaining GPU wu it would be better to abort them and let others get them as resends if you leave the GPU processing it will eat through an large number of wu for no result and they would have to be sent again anyway etc You gpu can work away on SETI etc until the new app is ready Happy Crunching! |

Any idea as to when the Fermi app might be deployed? Sad to see a gpu wasted. I have the GTX 465. |

Surely there is code now... and so glad to see this is a known bug. BTW, i noticed someone on the ladders is cranking through MW in the millions/day... anyone have any ideas? |

Similar situation here: replaced 2X 9800 GTX+'s with 2X GTX460's hoping to increase the crunch rate a little. Disappointment due to my lack of patience and insufficient research is mitigated by confidence that it is only a matter of time before developers (a species significantly more gifted than I) will bring all Fermi's fully into the fold. For my Core i7-920 system running 64-bit Linux, this situation is not restricted only to the MilkyWay project; GPUGrid also does not [yet] properly recognize and utilize GTX460. |

Multiple computers with 2 or more ATI HD GPUs capable of double precision calculation. Here for example and there are many with very much higher RACs as well. The DP ATI cards can give significant RACs on this project. Go away, I was asleep |

Hi all, Just posting my EVGA 470 GPUGRID numbers for you to review. I just started with this new card and already have done more crunching from the end of July to now then the past 10 years of the CPU to GPU evolution! Note: I leave my computer on 24/7 but do surf the net and play video games as well. I upgraded from a Evga 260-216x added March 2009 'til July 2010 (see graph below). As promised, I'm still crunchin' WUs on my CPU for my Milkyways! GPUGRID member since 29 Jul 2010 Total credit 2,541,968 Recent average credit 31,391.95 Computer Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz [Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6] (2 processors) Microsoft Windows 7 (Home Premium x64 Edition, 06.01.7600.00) GPU [p] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 (1248MB) driver: 26099 Get crunchin' BDDave |

Looking good, and GPUGRID is where NVidia cards should be as its a Single Precision Project. Milkyway is Double Precision and NVidia cards are seriously disadvantaged crunching DP. I'll probably join you when that ATI app is running there - reason is a personal one connected with some research they regularly crunch there, nothing against MW. Regards Zy |

Damn! I should have read this thread before buying GTX 580 :-/ I think that I'll return it and switch back to good old HD 4850... |
