I just started today and am trying to force the client to allow only GPU computing. Is there a way to do this? I noticed when the GPU computer, it shows + 1.0 ATI GPU to the right and at times it doesn't show up. Thanks for your time.

Hi MaoKhan,
in your MW-account settings you can uncheck cpu.

Hi.

Go to "My account" , click "MilkyWay@home preferences", then click on "edit MilkyWay@home preferences" and deselect the Use CPU box

ah cool thanks!

Is it normal that I have to hit update to get new working units each time? The client won't send or download by itself.

Let it run for itself, it is 'selfstabilysing', but it takes some time. It's dependent of the nr. of granted wu's, your Maximum daily WU quota per CPU has to be adjusted.
It should run fine after one or two days. But as you know, manual intervention can help a bit.

Installed the 0.23 Opti App, a few month ago, GPU+ 0.04CPU, the Q6600 host has an ATI HD5770(can only be used at Collatz C. and DNet, cause it's Single Precision, also an EAH4850 (D.P.) which is crunching mostly Milky Way.
I'm using BOINC 6.10.56; WIN XP 32BIT, by letting it run, whithout doing anything, I mean manually or not pushing buttons, I've a rather constant workflow, when 4 are crunched, whithout a failiar, I get 4 new ones.
Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending of what's available.

BOINC is perfectly capable of doing it's job, which is gettin work, UPLoad the work done, then check if it's OK and D'Load new work.......
BOINC doesn't require Babysitting, it's designed to do it's, above mentioned, job. ;^)

B.t.w. the CPU is (almost) always necessary to load the GPU, haven't seen a Project that can run solely on the GPU. And this low load (0.02-0.05CPU, makes it's possible to run an CPU only task, f.i
CPDN or SETI MultiBeam (MB), or any CPU-only prog. or app..
