Hi, just joined Milkyway. I only have a CPU, no compatible GPU for any project. CPU is Q6600 2.4GHz. However, other computers do WU in 16 sec what takes mine 20 hours. This is crazy, but is this normal? What can I do? http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/workunit.php?wuid=158614755 |

Run time was actually 226 seconds with 16 seconds used to load and unload the GPU. Looks like he had a HD4870. I run them on my HD5830 in 129 seconds with 8 seconds to load and unload the GPU. ![]() |

That's still crazy fast on GPU vs CPU. I just installed the optimized SSE3 app, so hopefully that will help performance. |

Hi with my SSE3 installed it reduced the time taken from 24 hours to between 5 and 6 hours. Assuming you have both CPUs running Milkyway, you should be able to up the credits from 214 a day to between 1500 and 1900 credits a day. mine alternates between 1710 and 1924 a day. nowhere near the speed of GPUs though. OK, first WU returned took about 10 hours. That is better than the 20-24 hours it estimated, but that's still double what Paul gets (above).... I have a Q6600, and I downloaded the SSE3 app for Intel & AMD. Is that the best option? |

My P4 2.66 sse2 takes 5.25 hours avg. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Just think of your MilkyWay WUs as sticks of warm butter, and an ATI video card as a turbocharged chainsaw. |
