Hi,

For the last month, I've had success with restarting BOINC for Milkyway units that are not progressing (or showing display progress?) in the BOINC client.

This has changed.

Yesterday, I saw two units "running", of which one was stalled. So I dutifully suspended operation, closed down BOINC peacefully, waited a bit, and then started BOINC up again. Both units were then showing no progress. I aborted them.

Today I have another unit that shows no progress, even after restarting BOINC.

The continued failure of these units takes away from other projects that could benefit from the use of all the Milkyway-assigned computer power.

My stats have been steadily falling since I joined, and I'm hoping improvements are coming.

Should I remain? (hopeful)

Hi Ralph,

Without presuming to know the M@H team's thoughts on this, from recent events I'd say expect a change sometime soon. Two people (I'm not sure of the term.. post-graduate students?) joined the team very recently, and by now they're probably hard at work finding a solution to the various problems the project's been facing. Either way though, remember the project's still in the Alpha stage! Things can only get better from here :)

Hello,

Thanks for the encouragement, but I've been nursing this project on my computer for a number of months now, and am getting a might peeved.

I have (I'm told) a great tolerance in these areas, and normally I'll stick with a problem long after a lot people would give up. (tech support experience)

I admire the project, although I've seen no specific information on it, other than the general statement of purpose. Information on what sort of modeling, how it's done, what sort of results from these calculations, etc. would be nice. I've always wanted to see more astronomy modelling results like n-body simulations.

This is the only application in BOINC that's causing these problems, and after this many months, there should be some improvement that gets the errors out of our client. I can only imagine machines all over the continent (and further) doing what mine does.

I'll check in later.

we're actually hoping to upgrade the application today, and we're putting in code that should help us isolate where the windows popup is. the new people (jodi and dave) are pretty much up to speed with the project. sorry this has been taking so long. either way expect a new application in a day or two, then when we figure out why windows are getting the popup message (probably within a week) we'll release another version.
