Hi guys. After reading about the new Cayman architecture it seems like it will provide some serious crunching performance compared to Evergreen. The SP to DP performance ratio has been improved from 5:1 to 4:1 and it has now some added GPGPU features. Does the Milkyway@home team have any plans for optimizing their ATI app to take advantage of the new power and features? |

The 6800 series worked well on Collatz with the current application and since there is no major architecture change in upcoming series, you can expect them to work well. |

From my understanding, Cayman shaders will be quite different that the ones found in Evergreen or Barts. |

Good news folks, the upcoming 6950 and 6970's will be available on November 8 with a revised reduction in prices to compete with Nvidia. not sure how to take your post: as a smack at amd for their ongoing whatever issues pushing back the release or that you are in fact the dude of the big lebowski and not sure what day, or month for that matter, it is. ;) nov.8th? ok, maybe a typo. I choose to take it as a smack at amd and I think it deserved. per amd the 6990 might not be out until q2 2011. ridiculous. besides, I have seen numerous release dates for the 6970 and just read of another, 13 dec. I hope you are not the dude and your post a typo, not a smack, and the cards on the shelves tomorrow. goodygumdrops. |

Good news folks, the upcoming 6950 and 6970's will be available on November 8 with a revised reduction in prices to compete with Nvidia. I meant the December 8 as I wrote it wrong eventually. Anyone with a logic could understand that. The source is very reliable and just wait for the tomorrow and you'll see. By the way, i like the drink white russian:) |

Good news folks, the upcoming 6950 and 6970's will be available on November 8 with a revised reduction in prices to compete with Nvidia. anyone with logic? understand? oh mercy. ok, so you fat fingered november vs december? no biggy. but I believe nov8 was one of many posed release dates, and logic is certainly intertwined in my response considering what is understood therein. frankly, logic is it at the core of my response that and a touch of humor. as I said, I hope you are correct though I am more interested in the 6990. EDIT: I somehow missed your white russian addition. I hope you understand I was having fun. joking in forums has bitten me several times. anyway, the dude abides. :) |

End of Dec 13 here in Oz and no 69xx listed. Found this..another 2 days to wait. "The launch is on Wednesday December 15th 5AM Central European Time or 6PM GMT or Greenwich time. Chaps in New York or across east coast will be able to see the card launching on November 15th at 00.00 AM while those from California get a slight advantage and can see the card selling already on December 14th 09.00 PM." |

69xx will be available 2morrow (Dec 15) recommended prices are: 6970 - $369 and 6950 - $299. Looks fine for me :-) But only performance is 25% higher then 5870, which I can get for $280 I wonder to see performance boost in MW against 5870... |

I understand the DP reduction is less than the 58xx series, so there should be more than a 25% improvement (theoretically?). Go away, I was asleep |

Just read reviews. not really... 6970 got 2703 GFLOPS which is even less then 5870 (2720 GFLOPS). and on top of that it's hotter then 5870, even using vapor chamber. 6950 got 2253 GFLOPS. Hmmm, I not really impressed and that's not I was waiting for. At all... Smth definetely wrong... |

from one review: BOINC estimated HD 6970 w/o OCing in 3307 GFLOPS. It take 70 secs approx to crunch one MilkyWay@Home WU AFAIK, 5870 take 90-100 secs to do so, so it's 30% approx boost. not that bad. |

from one review: maybe so, but 6970 reviews are generally not looking good next to the competition. here is a nice comparison, though the link at the not-so-good conclusion: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6970/33.html not impressed by the 6970 as upgrade material, for me, from a 5870, so will be interesting how the 6990 measures up to the 5970. unfortunately, word has it release q1 or possibly q2, 2011. EDIT: kitguru claim the 6970 spanks the 5870 [paraphrased], actually, they pose, "The HD6970 eats the HD5870 for breakfast." I don't see it minus the additions like hd3d and 1.4a. http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/his-hd6970-cfx-graphics-card-review/25/ |

saying frankly, I was really expected way more we've got. I really disappointed... The only thing is that i got 4870 and 4890 in hands and I desperately need to move forward. But now I'm confused - what should I do. I wanna wait results of 6970 crunching on MW in order to make decision with open mind and reliable data in hands... Guy who will get 6970 in hands, pls post your results here ;) |
