I've updated the separation application to 0.50 for Windows, Linux x86/x86_64/PPC, and OS X x86_64/PPC. I've also added the Nvidia OpenCL application, but I'm not sure if the scheduler's been updated to automatically send it out. I also haven't yet removed the old CUDA one. This should fix the crashing of 17_3s workunits and a few other things. |

Good evening, Thank you for your works of development applications ... No 64-bit, right now? Sincerely, Team Alliance francophone, boinc: 7.0.18 GA-P55-UD5, i7 860, Win 7 64 bits, 8g DDR3, GTX 470 |

No 64-bit, right now?Not for windows. I need to try again some time to get the 64 bit BOINC libraries built. Last time I tried it failed miserably. A 32bit Linux OpenCL one is also waiting on me getting around to a 32 bit install on actual hardware. |

Is my file app_info is good now?It looks about right but you'd have to try it. |

I forgot to actually mark the CUDA one as deprecated; it seems to be sending out the OpenCL one now. |

Today I've discovered that clang defaults to using SSE/SSE2 even on 32 bit x86 systems, so all the non-SSE2 Linux systems were failing. I've rebuilt it as 0.51 which should fix it there. |

As I cannot see your machines I cannot tell what driver version you are running, best bet is to upgrade to the latest release and see if that fixes the problem. |

Hi, after install of a new NVIDIA driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-260.99-whql-driver.html it is working fine now 269668142 203300369 11 Dec 2010 17:25:23 UTC 11 Dec 2010 17:37:21 UTC Completed and validated 687.46 34.40 0.24 213.76 MilkyWay@Home v0.50 (cuda_opencl) 269668134 203300361 11 Dec 2010 17:25:23 UTC 11 Dec 2010 17:36:54 UTC Completed and validated 681.33 35.30 0.25 213.76 MilkyWay@Home v0.50 (cuda_opencl) Thanks to Matt and Arkayn. Hi,It looks like by default the BOINC scheduler only requires a really old Nvidia driver version to send the OpenCL one, so that needs to be fixed. |

Will a MilkyWay@Home de_seperation... task run using the MW v0.50 (cuda_opencl) app on a GTX260-216, Win x64, NVidia 197.45 driver? |

Are you aware that on XP, Win 2000 - 2003 servers the 260.xx drivers do not have the option to run at prefer maximum performance in NVidia control panel, Power management mode. Many cards, by default, drop their freq to the minimum? Even for Fermi cards Performance is not present in Global settings and while it is present in Program Settings, it is stuck at adaptive; cant be changed to Prefer Maximum Performance. Would a GTX470 work with 260.99 with the app? Good luck, |

The GTX470 seems to have worked, going by credit totals, but the tasks don't hang around long online. |

This is becoming frustrating... Call me the guy from the ICE AGE but i'm not understanding a thing of what we are doing here... The process of it all is beyond me... Can someone explain to me in short, concise, "English" in what way is my PC contributing BOINC via Milkyway server (Whatever) in finding extraterrestrials... it's tough i know... to have someone as ignorant as me but... just someone humor me with an explanation... I'll be grateful for life! |

Mapping the Milkyway, not searching for aliens. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

It's not really mapping the Milkyway. It uses data from a project which is trying to map the entire sky, but the real point is to find a model for the Milkyway's potential, in particular the halo. Knowing the mass distribution of the galaxy would be useful in solving the dark matter problem. This is becoming frustrating... the real point is to find a model for the Milkyway's potential By potential I take it you mean mass and velocity, and MVmilkyway - SumMiVi = dark matter mass X V (i for individual stars, dust, planets, moons...)? |

Can someone explain to me in short, concise, "English" in what way is my PC contributing BOINC via Milkyway server (Whatever) in finding extraterrestrials... G'Day Niburujoe, BOINC is a platform through which many projects can be launched all doing different things. SETI also uses the BOINC platform (the first project to do so) and it's purpose is to find signs of Alien life. It is just one of a number of Astronomy projects, some others being:- Einstein_____(searches for Pulsars, gravity waves and such) Cosmology____(trying to understand the universe (I think)) MilkyWay_____(as Matt said trying to get a better idea how big and massive _____________ Milkyway really is) Orbit________(tracking space junk including asteroids and meteors) Constellation____(various space and science projects) plus a few others. So as you can see you wont find Aliens here at Milkyway but you may help us find out more about the Galaxy in which we live. Conan. |
