what is the treshold temperature for 6950? is it safe to run this card 7/24 at 80-88 celcius / 175-190 Fahrenheit? so far no problem but is there any risk? |

At ~ 120°C the card will start throttling, so you're safe and don't need to worry about it. ![]() Join Support science! Joinc Team BOINC United now! |

Crunching 24/7 already stresses hell out of the card. I recommend 85C at max just to have a tolerance interval. Although the card throttles at 120C, I consider going above 95C as slightly dangerous. |

You will be fine. Your card architecture is built to handle more stress and heat than that. |

Wow, those things get hot. I'm not really comfortable letting my 5850 get above 70°C, even though they can handle quite a bit more. |

My HD5850 runs at 46C, using the 3 fan aftermarket cooler. But the HD5970 runs at 77C with the stock cooler. Go away, I was asleep ![]() ![]() |

Have been using the 6990 for about a week now. Overclocked with stock cooling... runs anywhere between 92 to 101 C under full load. It's a hot card. |

Installed yesterday a HD6950 (MSI Twin frozr II) after 24 hours still at 75/76C |

As noted, the card is thermal rated for that heat range. However, if you aren't comfortable with that, a program like the latest MSI Afterburner will allow you to create overclocking and fan/heat profiles to better regulate your temps. The program works with cards other than those from MSI. I personally like the interface and small footprint of the program. |

How is your Case airflow? Just got a 5870(replaced a 4850) a couple weeks back and my GPU Temps were upper 70c/80% Fan Speed with too much Fan noise for my small apartment and the heat within my old case(Xaser III) caused my CPU to overheat. Bought a new case(Zalman Z9 Plus) and now my GPU Temps are 69c/57% Fan Speed making for a much cooler CPU and quieter system overall. |

We all need a big case to get low temp. I have a cooler master haf 932 with 3 big fans I870 @3.2GHz and installed + a zalman VF3000A on an ATI 5850 GPU Temp never goes above 45°C CPU < 60°c crunching 24/7 surveyed by Tthrotlle software. |

you're fine running around 100 silicon wont get damaged until much hotter. hotter cards just use more power. my 5870 runs at 90C/45% fan load just a quick off-topic question, how long does each WU take on your 6990s either stock or OC? |

6990 oced to 930/1380 will typically crunch between 59 and 69 seconds. Ive had some inconsisent results though. Ill be adding another 6990 next month... Hoping that the drivers are a bit more stable by then. 3rd week in and already having wierd issues with CCC. At stock bios selection 2, this card will most likely perform very similar to a 6970 per WU... It just has 2 of them per card. |

hmm, thats 20% faster than my 5870 per core. was thinking of ressurecting my old PC and putting a couple of 6990s in it |
