We've done a lot of updating recently, so if the application is erroring out for you, please post the platform so we know which ones to look into. I just updated the 64 bit linux binary, so I'm hoping that should fix some of the problems people are having |

Downloaded 20 WUs each on 2 different boxes and they all errored Linux running on an Intel x86-compatible CPU v1.19 All had output file absent |

Downloaded 20 WUs each on 2 different boxes and they all errored In the process of fixing this. One of the libraries was not linked correctly. Corrected linux 32bit apps should be up today sometime. The linux apps also have optimization improvements to try and keep par with the Windows systems. I'm getting loads of errors on Win2Kpro ... and since I'm only getting errors on Milkyway@home and not Cosmology@home that I run conterminously so I assume it's project specific ... 2008-03-07 19:09:02|Milkyway@home|Reason: Unrecoverable error for result gs_284_1204849413_34592_0 (There are no child processes to wait for. Isn't it updating automatically ? or where can I update it ? |

Hi I had the following on Win98SE 2008/03/07 8:30:28|Milkyway@home|Starting gs_280_1204857592_46387_0 2008/03/07 8:30:30|Milkyway@home|[error] Process creation failed: A device attached to the system is not functioning. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 0 completed tasks 2008/03/07 18:57:32|Milkyway@home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks Why the request if not reporting complete tasks or requesting work? I'm going to restart that pc now and see if that stops it. Rod |

Hi It's probably because you hit the "update button" instead of leaving boinc doing it's thing... just let it run without taking manual action. And since the RPC time is now down to 10 min you got that additional request for 0 seconds of work.... Join Support science! Joinc Team BOINC United now! |

Hi Even if I had done that it should surely make only one attempt, not repeatedly try, especially as it is making contact with the server. But that's the issue, I actually didn't do anything. In fact I was at work and no one could have done it. In trying to restart the pc I had "redir32.dll" (or "redir.dll" - not sure now) unable to end and had to hard power off. This has made the pc very unhappy and I'm still trying to get it to start up properly! Safe to say, I'm sure the repeated connecting will be gone once the pc starts up again. Thanks Rod |

Well that's kinda strange cuz a "user request" can only be triggered by hitting the update button ... have a gost at home ? LOL However just let that thing run without user/gost intitialised updates ;) There should be a new app out soon that'll fix the issues on W2K,NT4 and Win98... Join Support science! Blushing while typing this! I've just looked through the messages and realized that I *was* at home at that time. I have 2 old laptops crunching. One of them (not the one in question) only gets a network connection when I swap network cables for up/downloading and reporting. Because of this I manually update that one so that the reporting gets done. I must have updated the wrong laptop! I guess that's what happens when you've only had 2 hours sleep the previous night! By the way, it has a moment ago finally restarted! Will let you know what happens. Sorry for getting off track a bit here - it's that lack of sleep thing! Rod |

Nah... no need to blush ;) the new app is released ... if you still see 1.21 in your boincmanager you should reset the project to get the new 1.22 app. (that'll fix the issues) Join Support science! Joinc Team BOINC United now! |

I am seeing these user requests also on version 1.21 on Mac OSX Intel. In fact, I have 7 of them in 90 minutes. Jim |

Will probably post again tomorrow night. Many thanks for you helpful (and polite!) comments. Rod |

well don't know about the mac stuff but just let it run. As far as i know there are no issues like those on older win platforms that cause computational errors. Though the mac app seems quite slow... Join Support science! Joinc Team BOINC United now! |

i'll have to look into seeing if we can do the same optimizations (or similar) on the macs that were done on the windows machines, hopefully we can see a similar improvement in performance. |

Well we can ... though not exactly the same type since osx uses gcc as compiler but we can safely asume some optimizations that we can use at osx like optimizing for SSE2 since ANY Intel/OSX HW is able to run SSE2 code... Just let me know ;) Join Support science! Joinc Team BOINC United now! |

i really wish BOINC could be compiled with gcc on os x instead of xcode -- would make life a whole lot easier :) |

it can ... already did that.... btw... xcode is just a frontend to gcc jsut like vs 2005 is to cl... ;) don't worry we get that one working too i'm sure of it ;) Join Support science! Joinc Team BOINC United now! |
