thanks for the update Blurf. that's a real stand-up thing to do, and i applaud those responsible. after all, many folks already got double credit for a solid ~36 hours. so to give for any more than another 12 hours is an additional bonus for many of us. |

There will be another set of double-credit days--just have to confirm them before announcing them. Thanks! |

We are still trying to decide when to run the 12 hours of double credits that were missing from the recent period. We'll let you know when we decide. There is a strong feeling that we should wait until after the heat of the summer, since the A/C system seems to fail at the most inopportune times. (Murphy's law...) It is my understanding that the double credits run was promised due to a database error, and not an outage. Therefore they represent compensation for an error on our side that resulted in credit lost for work done. I wish they had been run closer to the original error, but things are what they are. -Matthew N. |

Are the "credits" relevant to us non-affiliated volunteers? If so, how? |

Are the "credits" relevant to us non-affiliated volunteers? If so, how? No. The credits are only relevant for people for whom positions on a virtual scoreboard is more important than the work being done by this project. |

Quoting Matthew from 7/26: We are still trying to decide when to run the 12 hours of double credits that were missing from the recent period. We'll let you know when we decide. There is a strong feeling that we should wait until after the heat of the summer, since the A/C system seems to fail at the most inopportune times. (Murphy's law...) A lot of our concern is based on the fact that random Power shutdowns are still occurring at RPI that we have little warning about or control over. |

when does it typically start cooling off in Troy, NY? if the MW@H servers were down here in FL, it would be months before we'd be able to stop worrying about the summer heat...but i'm hoping that it starts to cool off up there sooner than it does down here... |

It is past the heat wave. Average high temps ~75-80F. See here:http://www.weather.com/weather/monthly/12180 Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

The server room that houses Milkyway@home is currently running on a backup AC system. As it is a server room, AC is required even when outside temperatures are not very high. We are currently in the process of trying to move Milkyway@home from the current situation into a modern, stable computing center that has just been installed on campus. The details are still being worked out. I will discuss the final 12 hours of double make-up credits with the group, but I would personally like to wait a little longer before starting them. The high temperatures are starting to average below 80F, so I think we will be able to run these in the next week or two. -Matthew N. |
