Looks like the server had a hard crash. Not quite sure from what. A couple tables in the database were corrupted, but I think I've gotten them fixed and things should be working again. I'll keep posting updates here.

Unfortunately, the server just went down again.

Indeed -- ping pong server syndrome. Currently part of it is up, but the feeder is not running.

As has been noted by myriads over the ages, with MW and its micro-queues, even short outages (and this one is a long outage) cause problems, especially for those souls with MW as their primary GPU project.

I used to 'live there' -- burned often enough to have two alternates to work with these days. I had three alternates until the Dnetc folks got *bored* and shut down their project.

Trust me these issues bother me as much as it does you guys, if not more.

Travis, I realize that -- I've been around MW as a user for a long time (over three years). The project has always been a tad too good on the GPU front for the level of hardware and general support it has to work with.

Again, for me, the 'work around' was the happy finds of other projects (Collatz, Dnet - until the folks there got bored, Moowrapper) that support the ATI/AMD GPU's I run.

Heck these days, for CPU projects there is a bit of dry spell for me (Spinhenge and POEM) -- so I've found myself reverting to some other 'tried and true' alternatives (Einstein, Malaria, Rosetta). Heck, I've even bumped up my CPU hit for SETI.

It's more frustrating because the problems aren't things we can deal with directly. We have to go through RPI's administration (and currently the CS department is extremely understaffed when it comes to people maintaining our hardware), so it just takes forever to get anything done.

Does that mean that it's time to go and ask RPI's administration if, as a result of the repair delays, you can have at least one more semester to complete your research, WITHOUT paying anything at all for those extra semesters?

I have been having trouble with the feeder for days:

11/2/2011 10:32:53 AM | Milkyway@home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
11/2/2011 10:32:53 AM | Milkyway@home | Reporting 12 completed tasks, requesting new tasks for NVIDIA GPU
11/2/2011 10:32:57 AM | Milkyway@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
11/2/2011 10:32:57 AM | Milkyway@home | Server error: feeder not running
11/2/2011 10:47:24 AM | Milkyway@home | update requested by user
11/2/2011 10:47:26 AM | Milkyway@home | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
11/2/2011 10:47:26 AM | Milkyway@home | Reporting 12 completed tasks, requesting new tasks for NVIDIA GPU
11/2/2011 10:47:30 AM | Milkyway@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
11/2/2011 10:47:30 AM | Milkyway@home | Server error: feeder not running

It won't accept the WUs I have completed so it won't send me new ones.

I, too, am unable to send completed tasks / request new tasks at the moment although the News section on the front page says "milkyway back up" as of 31 Oct. It's been like this for a day or so after briefly resuming as normal.
The messsage I get is "Server error: feeder not running".
May I suggest that the front page carries current status and those looking for history can read these forum messages?

Thanks, Blurf, for the heads-up and interim diagnosis posted elsewhere. Really good to see the main website page carries a more accurate account of the status quo.

(No harm in saying "we got issues here." We'll bear with you!)

FWIW I've uploaded all recently completed tasks and have lots more new work whilst you're tacking the problem(s).
