Message 52358 - Posted: 10 Jan 2012, 23:48:00 UTC

Not running on a 7970.

I've got 2x7970 in crossfire, 4 WUs tried, all reset the driver within a couple of seconds, and dont progress from that point.

I'll reboot and try with reduced clocks see what happens.

Moo doesnt run on 7970 either.

Initial run on Collatz seemed to go well, doing those in 525 seconds at full standard settings inside the driver, no voltage applied.

Tried bringing down the clocks to 875/1100 (default is 925/1325) still doesnt run. It resets the driver within a couple of seconds as before.

I crashed a few against my 1090T, then aborted, so you have a few to look at.

If you want me to test any different versions, post here or PM me - delighted to help if I can

All your tasks say they were aborted so I don't see any error.

Actually I found one that does have something in it. Could you try running it with the argument --gpu-polling-mode -1?

Or 1. Or anything that isn't 0.

I'll need the app_info format and basic entries - not done one at MW for a while, once I've got that I'll run a few for you

Bak .... GPUs set for defaults (925/1375)

If you want to come in on remote and take control fine by me - your choice.

If you want me to run more tests - no problem

Any log files I can set that will help you?

It doesn't really matter. It's not worth putting in much effort to find out why it's crashing since the CAL version is discontinued. I'll just make sure the replacement is fine when I get mine in a few days.

I'll get some more Collatz done - but post if you want me to run anything (and/or log files), I'll watch this board for posts.

Could you lead me by the nose on dowloading an NVidia one and running it on a 7970, and I'll give it a go. Is it app_info? If so, whats the file settings etc.

Fine that it works. Runtime for you is about 66 s, I see. Do you think that there will be improvements with AMD-specific code?

(This question goes also to Matt :))

Run Time is 52 secs with GPU set to 1125/1575, the max speed inside the driver, power slider is +5

Validates ok. GPU Temp is max 73 degrees, fan on auto, running 2 x 7970 in crossfire, 1090T CPU @3.6Ghz 16Gb DDR3 RAM @1600, no CPU apps running.

Nice stuff ATI hatdware running NVidia app via OpenCL. Suspect more speed to come with ATI OpenCL app. If additional voltage applied likely to go to 40-45 secs a WU I reckon.

Good start straight off the bat and no tweeking as such

EDIT: Screen a bit laggy so set it to 32 inside MW preferences, much better, WU now runs @53secs. Temp still 73-74, solid, running well

EDIT2: Utilisation is 99% constant on both 7970s, hardly flickers

It's interesting that even at this point the HD 7970 is running the NVidia optimized app at 3.5x faster than the top GTX580 card that I could find in the database. Pretty impressive and the HD 7970 also uses less power.

BTW, the page below needs to be corrected and updated:

http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/gpu_list.php

The HD 69xx series isn't even listed (unless the top AMD listing of HD5800 is a typo) and no the GTX480 is not faster than the GTX580 according to the WU completion times in "Top Computers".
