I am having an issue with these N-Body tasks with BOINC.. however a bit different than what I have ready so far in other threads.. when first started I get about a dozen WU's downloaded to BOINC and it happily starts working along with the other projects - I notice there are two primary types of files however. ps_separation_82_2S_mix0_3_xxxxxx_x and nbody-Plum_embedded_xxxxxx_0 for example any file with the ps_separation name works fine and gets processed with no issues - once they run out however they seem to all be replaced with the nbody-plum type files and they NEVER run - I have watched it over the course of days and once I reach the point of all downloaded files being of the nbody type I never get another WU processed - I have tried resetting the project which basically resets ok but repeats the same pattern.. I have also de-attached and re-attached the project - again with the same results. Any reason why Milkyway gets hung up on these small files? I have no objection to the small WU but I do when it reaches a point of stopping and never doing another WU without babysitting it.. any suggestions? |

What do you mean exactly by doesn't run? |

exactly that.. I have four projects that I am attached to.. three of the four take normal turns executing based on the set sharing of 25% time set to each project and rotate around... all except for MW... once I am stuck with just these nbody type files they stay in the TASK list saying READY TO RUN but never actually RUN... they always stay in this ready to run state and my computer just rotates through the other three projects.. |

Do you have it set to a very low resource share? Have you tried restarting boinc? |

I have not done any changes to resources - not that technical so I have left things as whatever default they are from installation - the other three processes seem to have no trouble running ... Milky way has no trouble running when it is first started or reset but only the ps_separation_82_2S_mix0_3_xxxxxx_x type files.. they run fine... once they run out however they seem to be replaced with the nbody type files and these are the ones that just sit there and never execute.. |

As far as I understand the n-body WUs can only be processed by your CPU. Please check if your CPU is allowed to work for this project. There is also an option to block getting n-body WUs from the server. |

it's the BOINC scheduler. As n-body uses all cores of your CPU, the scheduler needs to stop all other tasks to run them, so if the internal scheduler priorities of the other projects are higher, it will wait until the other tasks are completed to run n-body. To make them run immediately, select all other projects in "Projects" tab and click in "Suspend" button. When all n-body are completed, resume the other projects. |

thanks... I have disabled the nbody files in my setup - I will give that a run and see what happens - thank you for your help Been having the same problem for several months. 3 of 4 cores available to process and n-bodys sitting there waiting to start. Had to reset project repeatedly to get them to run. Will try this fix and see how it goes. In case it matters: Win7 on AMD Phenom II 955 4 core. Running 4 projects total. |
