First off let me start off by saying I'm new to SETI@home. Found out about this the other day when I was watching SCI. If you look at http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7970/Pages/radeon-7970.aspx#3 it shows that the 7970 is able to do 947 GFLOPS Double Precision compute power but when I click on properties for the task that's using the card it shows a number between 625-640 GFLOPs/sec. Should it be 947 GFLOPs/sec or closer then what I'm getting now? |

Hi James, I'm currently running a 7950 (OC'ed), and I can only assume that your card should be able to do 900+ GFlops/s as well. However, I haven't checked with the default MHz setting (is it 800 or 900MHz?). Here're 2 examples from WU logs (running Catalyst 12.2 drivers and CCC): * at 1000MHz: Estimated AMD GPU GFLOP/s: 3584 SP GFLOP/s, 896 DP FLOP/s * at 1050MHz: Estimated AMD GPU GFLOP/s: 3763 SP GFLOP/s, 941 DP FLOP/s Not sure if this helps you. Regards, Tobias |

I'm running a Radeon HD 7950 (Using Catalyst 12.3), complete a unit and the task reported: Estimated AMD GPU GFLOP/s: 3942 SP GFLOP/s, 986 DP FLOP/s with a core frequency of 1100Mhz, It can run at 1200Mhz after fiddling with Afterburner but I'm a bit lazy at the moment. |

First off let me start off by saying I'm new to SETI@home. Found out about this the other day when I was watching SCI. Looking at some of your tasks it says "Estimated AMD GPU GFLOP/s: 3789 SP GFLOP/s, 947 DP FLOP/s" which seems right For my 7970 it says "Estimated AMD GPU GFLOP/s: 4608 SP GFLOP/s, 1152 DP FLOP/s" but then mine is overclocked. |

One of your current tasks reports: "Estimated AMD GPU GFLOP/s: 4608 SP GFLOP/s, 1152 DP FLOP/s" so you should be fine. Maybe your GPU was underclocked before? BTW: this is Milkyway@Home ;) MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

@Tobias yea my card should be able to do around 947 GFlOPS/s but it doesn't, oh my card was OC'd to GPU:1125 MHz MEM: 1575 MHZ and that was when I started this thread so something isn't right. @Phil I see what your talking about, but doesn't that mean that's what my card can do? I'm looking at "Estimated app speed" in properties and its around 600-650 GFLOP/s. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also AMD's website says that the 7970 can do "3.79 TFLOPS Single Precision compute power" so how come its only doing GFLOPS and not TFLOPS? Anyone able to shine some light on that? |

3.79 Tflops = 3790 Gflops. But any decently overclocked 7970 will get well beyond that, even my 7950 reaches up to 4 Teraflops single point precision-wise. |

On a sidenote: I experience that as soon as you'd have e.g. Firefox open and watch a YouTube(Flash) video, my Catalyst no longer uses the "OC" settings, but limits CPU speed down to e.g. 550MHz instead of the 1GHz that I set manually. As soon as I terminated the plugin-container thread (Firefox-Flash plugin) in my process monitor, the clock speed went up to 1GHz again. |

There you have it. That's why I asked whether your GPU was downclocked - it is, sometimes. And if it is, you'll see the slow crunching speed. Otherwise your card is fine. How did you set the overclock? Currently I'm using Spphire TRIXX, but EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner should all work well. MrS Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002 |

I used CCC to overclock the card. Ty all for clearing that up for me. :D |
