Milkyway just stopped issuing new work to any of my systems about 10 min ago. Says "got 0 new tasks". Server status currently shows 461 tasks ready to send, but that message is dated and so it appears we're out of work.

And that is why I support so many projects ... :)

With 5-20 projects on each computer, it is hard to run out of work ... :)

{eidt}It is even harder with most work being so long even on todays fastest machines ... much less the older ones I am still using{/edit}

There's definitely still work being generated. Are others having this problem?

I had a couple of requests that said there was no work around the time of Astro's post, but it cleared up soon after.

Me too ...

But still, I dropped my share to 50 vice 100 ...

And it is looking good that I will be caught up on NQueens sometime tomorrow (late?) and can start concentrating on the next project on my "catch-up" list ...

Of course, it is going to be getting harder to catch up as the targets are higher ...

Of course, if it was easy, anyone could play ...

An off topic personal comment if I may.....Paul, it's good to have you back on 'BOINC' projects again. Us 'old timers' certainly remember the tremendous contribution you made with the Wiki etc. C'est bon!.....Cheers, Rog.

I'm not sure what this message means, but I think this is the right thread to post about it:

Thu Apr 24 23:29:28 2008|Milkyway@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 735 seconds of work, reporting 1 completed tasks
Thu Apr 24 23:29:33 2008|Milkyway@home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks
Thu Apr 24 23:29:34 2008|Milkyway@home|Message from server: No work sent
Thu Apr 24 23:29:34 2008|Milkyway@home|Message from server: (there was work for other platforms)

I'm not sure if this means there's a problem or not... but it does mean that I don't have any MilkyWay WUs going at the moment. I'm on a Mac, btw... Intel Core 2 Duo, OSX 10.4.11.

IF the work gets "tagged" to run only on one platform or another, well, then your platform can't get any this trip around. This kind of surprises me in that this project is not using redundent checking so ...

Of course, it may be an inadvertent setting error on the work generator, or they are generating a set of work for a specific test ... or ET is messing with this project while SaH has missed their signals completely ...

Sorry I couldn't update later. I was on my way to bed when I noticed them running out of work and the normal small cache wasn't being filled. I had the Connection interval at .001 and Additional days at .015. This meant my dual cores and lower always had a cache, while due to the number of cores, the quads would run dry then refill their 20 wus. Anyway, when I saw my single cores and duals working on their last wu, I knew there was a problem and reported it. They (all 8 hosts) infact ran dry and luckily I was here to allow another project to get work for the nite. don't know how long the work was absent. Perhaps we were just getting them faster than they could be made...I don't know.

I awoke to see these posts and some MW tasks on my hosts, so all is good again.

Since I'm going to leave malaria control getting work, I increase the "additional days" to .15.

Got the long back-off (24 hours) overnight and just hit update (with 16 hours to go) to get the no work message:

Fri Apr 25 09:10:47 2008|Milkyway@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 1204 seconds of work, reporting 3 completed tasks
Fri Apr 25 09:10:52 2008|Milkyway@home|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks

Snags

FYI: The 24 hour back-off comes after a "there was work for other platforms" message.

How come the assimilator (whatever that is) is clogged up? Isn't that condition steering us toward another outage?

I was about to start transferring some machines back to this project. Think I'll wait until y'all get things working smoothly.

xp no new work

I can't prove it as some of my systems are not asking for work ...

But it could be that we are running it dry as fast as it generates new work ... I know I have gotten a few tasks from M-Way this morning ...

The problems of popularity ...

hmm...well firstly the assimilator is clogged due to a db_purge. I'll kill that soon. and I think I'll restart the server too if it's acting flaky

Have they dropped Mac's or do they have a big problem on their end?

No we havent. I personally use a Mac. That was very weird. I restarted the server and it seems to be resolved. It's still a little hard getting work though as usual.
