Next P4 xeon 3 gig Linux64 -5.10.8....- 478 secs

Finally I will offer a P4 3.6 gig pentium Linux32-5.10.8...-497 secs

Recently having some fun playing with OC'ing an old 4200+
Same specs otherwise and she puts down consistent 223's on air. :) Not bad for a $50 proc I guess.

BOINC: 5.10.30
Seconds per WU:330 seconds/WU.

Note: It's doing this four WU's at a time. ;)

Q6600 at 3.6GHz (64 bit Ubuntu Gutsy) with 64 bit BOINC 5.10.8:

Approx. 200 seconds per WU

Have had it running faster - doing them in approx. 196 seconds at 3.7Ghz and 189 seconds at 3.8GHz

I don't know the "best times" but these times were taken from the "est to comp" taken from the boinc manager, so one/two had to be faster.

AMD X2 3600 running Ubuntu 8.04 X64 (RT Kernel) 247 seconds. FSB is 285
x 9.5 multi with 2 gig of Ballistix.

Film at 10 on my Q6600 (electrical fire). Motherboard due in tommorrow.

That's really amazing, given a Q6600 at higher speed takes longer (190s at 3.8GHz). Must be the extra L2 cache that makes all the difference? Or does it have very fast RAM (like DDR3/1800)?

Penryn also has some architectural changes; for instance, dividing numbers should be twice as fast. Perhaps MW benefits from this in a big way.

The RAM is DDR2 PC8000 (1000MHz). But I run it 1:1, so currently running at 800MHz. From reviews I read, I gather that for most Boinc projects the large L2 cache will make a difference. But that can't be the only difference. I also read that at stock speed the 2.5GHz Q9300 (6MB L2) outperforms the 2.4GHz Q6600 (8MB L2) in most applications.

I don't know what the requirement really is, but until about 6 weeks ago I ran MW on a PII-300 running XP w/ 96MB RAM without any problems. IIRC, it took about 1.5 hours per WU.

I don't think there is a minimum....as long as the project supports the os and you can meet the deadline are the only requirements I know of.But cheez man the meter spins like mad not doing much....if your pockets are that deep go buy another host :)

I have been going to tease about a thread for the slowest host since Jeff started this. So here is my submission:

This is an odd coincidence because when I checked BoincView this morning she was not registering. Upon closer inspection, it appears she passed away quietly last night. Been my faithful tablet for 8 years.
Actually, I think I can fix it. Need to pick up a torx bit and we will see...

Edit to add:
LOL, My first reaction was.."cool, now I have an excuse to replace it with a new quad!" I was always impressed with this tablet as it is solid state has no fan and kill-a-watt showed it ran on just 13 watts. Haven't done the math not sure if that is worth the RAC.

That Pentium II has 64 MB, so the minimum is less than that.

I have an even older laptop which I don't have permanently on the internet (I need a hub to do that). Since I only connect it about every 5-7 days I don't think it will work on MW. But it has only 24MB (I think), so I'll try attach it and let you all know what happens.

Since it is 01:43 here in South Africa (GMT+2), that will only happen after some sleep! Also, my posting about it will most likely only be tomorrow night.

I'm not a linux guru, but have managed to get boinc running in dual boot on many hosts. Anyway, for some strange reason I recently began running out of disk space and would stop getting work. After a reboot it fills with work again, then about 12 hours later it stops getting work because of an "not enough hard drive space" message. This is happening on my AMD64 X2 6000. Using 64b mandriva it was doing a wu in 217-218 seconds, so this morning I rebooted it into win xp pro 64 (64b boinc) and attached. Using winxp pro 64 it is taking 300 seconds (vs the 217 in 64b linux). Strange huh.
