Just to revive the thread, I added an AMD X2 4800 pushed to 3.2 on a DFI board. Best completion time is 198. Anybody got an Intel dual core that can match this? Too bad I have to shut it down, as I will try to get through the summer running three Quads. I can't afford to cool me and the whole farm. Lets go Aussies, take advantage of that fine winter weather down under. I recently fired up a Phenom 9750 95 watt rig. It takes very little overclock to finish a 20 pack ahead of the server turnaround. AMD makes some Monsta distributed computing chips. Regards-Voltron |

Xeon X3350 @ 3.6 GHz, DDR2/1066 at 900MHz (4-4-4-12). 64bit Ubuntu Hardy Down to 129-130 seconds now. Doesn't beat the 7.7 seconds on the X5365 mentioned in the previous post but I think that one is probably mis-reporting the CPU time. Join the #1 Aussie Alliance on MilkyWay! |

What kind of completion times would you Linux boys get if you weren't using a opptimizied app? :P Makes Windows look like a dozer. [evil grin]You sould all get 2.03 credits per w/u, with times like that. HA-HA-HA[/evil grin] Stefan |
What kind of completion times would you Linux boys get if you weren't using a opptimizied app?
I have two rigs that can dual boot Hardy x64 or Vista 32 bit. The only thing I use Vista for is "Windows Update". Why run bloatware when you you have 64 bit Linux? Regards-Voltron |

So sold my old 4200+ to a client and decided to build a budget cruncher on the idea of performance/dollar. I based it on a 5000+ Black Edition proc. I must say this is the coolest processor I have ever owned. Just got it crunching and am pretty impressed so far. Here is what I have come up with: Athlon 64 X2 5000+ BE $82 JetWay JM26GT3-SVP $40 Sunbeam PSU-BKS580-US 580W $21 x2 WINTEC 512MB PC2 4200 DDR2 $20 (Actually I am running two kingston cards purchased office max for $20. The above link was the closest I could find on newegg. They have the same timmings and specs) OK, so that is my new headless cruncher...Let's see, less shipping that comes out to a total system cost of $163. *big grin* After a little tweaking and 24 hours of stress testing she is doing milkyway units in 194-195sec. I am starting out a bit conservative with the OC and clocked at 3.2Ghz right now. I am seriously impressed with the new chip and have no doubt it still has some decent headroom. I almost guarantee the ram is the limiting factor and one could get higher clocks with a more aggresive FSB. Anyway, here's the link to this host hostid=14760 Hope this is of any value to someone. Peace! Keep on crunchin' |
