I have run into a strange issue. I have been noticing that all the other computers (accept 2 that arn't cooperating with their work loads yet) that when I am disconnected from the internet everything seems to run fine as a clock.

However

On one PC, windows xp professional, Caligulie at any point that I disconnect it from the internet, all my computing jobs disapear and computing appears to completely stop until I reconnect to the server again.

No other computer is having this trouble that I have harnessed.

So I guess my question is.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so or if not, do you know why this behavior is happening and or how to fix it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok, after some experimenting I found another portion of the odd behavior. When I block all internet communcations with my firewall localy is when the jobs disapear.

However, if I just disconnect the cord, or if I disable it, all the jobs remain and continue computing.

Can someone tell me why this is. If its not supposed to be this way then could someone inform me how to fix it.

This is very strange behavior.

Yes I have the newest version of bionic.

The easiest answer is to just stop blocking the Boinc directory in your firewall. Boinc needs two way communication with your pc, although I have never heard of it deleting the workunits before, except when they are expired and no longer needed. MOST of us make an exception for Boinc in our anti-virus app too, occasionally when the new signatures come out they get fancy and Boinc gets included and all of a sudden Boinc won't work because of it. IF you exclude Boinc then any fake virus is allowed, as is any real virus. BUT a real virus will be caught as soon as it strays outside the Boinc directory, which it SHOULD try to do if it is a real virus/trojan/whatever. And to be honest if a virus is confined to Boinc itself, it isn't my problem as long as it doesn't infect the rest of my pc. If a server has a virus that ONLY infects Boinc, what difference does it make to me, my pc is safe and running just fine. I think you should treat the firewall the same way, let Boinc communicate as it wishes, but continue to block the other usual suspects like you probably already are. As long as it is ONLY Boinc talking back and forth and it doesn't stray outside itself, it's okay.
