Intel core 2 duo 8400, both running 100%, 70 deg. C. On the processes tab of task manager the CPU both read 49. priority is low - should i change that?

only use one CPU, and report back (Y)

OK so I set affinity to core 0 for both MWAH processes. now system idle is 50%, and each process is using 25% of cpu as shown in task manager. The GPU is still only showing very low core load(0-5% or so)

maybe I am not doing something right still...

i would have set the max cpu usage to 50% in preferences. Well, i set to 98%, as the next time you get a WU it goes back to any CPU. Anyhoo, you haven't installed BOINC as a service have you?

Try MSI afterburner and see what that says about core usage, as your time don't look to bad.

Quick question, why do you have two MWAH proccesses running?

Yea personally I wouldn't bother crunching MW@H on the CPU if I was crunching it on the GPU (at least once you've got the GPU load sorted), I'd use 1 CPU core on another project. But each to their own :).

I think there are 2 MWAH tasks running by default? an dmy core usage seems to be close to 100%.

I think i have figured something out - the program i use to monitor comp temps, usage, fans, etc, is called "open hardware monitor" it has a graphing function. when i leave the comp alone, and then come back to it, i believe that the gpu is in 100% use, which abruptly goes to 0%. i see this on the graph. so maybe it is a server/controller issue, and the 2 comps act differently on the same project because of the different operating systems - XP vs. 8.1?

anyway, i am just in this game for the fun of it, and i enjoy trying to tweak the systems - although the picture remains quite murky for me, i think that maybe i am learning something about the comps. i need to do some more formal study at a far more basic level before i can really understand wth is going on. but i do appreciate the comments...

Ah, that's it then, you haven't checked 'use GPU whilst computer is in use'! ;)
BOINC> tools> computing preferences> processor usage> check 'use GPU...'.

Now it should run all the time :)

You should STILL leave one cpu core free just to keep the gpu fed and running at top speed. The gpu can produce over 10 times as much work and credits per day then a single cpu core can. Do it by changing the setting in Boinc Manager, Tools, Computing preferences, processor usage tab, then near the bottom it says "On multiprocessor systems, use at most [xx] & of the processors (0 means ignore this setting)". Change the numbers in the box to 99, that way it will use one less then the total number of cpu cores to keep the gpu fed. This number works for all systems to keep a single cpu core free for use by the gpu. Be sure to click the "OK" box at the bottom to save the settings. This is a pc by pc setting, so if you have multiple pc's you can use this on the ones with gpu's in them, and not use it on ones that don't have gpu's in them, but you must do it manually on each one.

No problem, if they hadn't been climbing then it would have been okay to go back to not leaving one free. By them climbing you now know the gpu was waiting for cpu time to keep it running at full speed.

I think he is asking why his AMD R290 won't work here.

As of late I'm noticing that I'm not getting any MW@H tasks. The system is responding, "Not requesting tasks: don't need"

Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I've rarely ever had an issue getting tasks from MW@H. SETI is the only task I have scheduled for CPU and GPU, but as of late, I'm only getting SETI CPU tasks.

Couple of thing...1st check the percentage for each project, if Seti is at 100% and MW is at 10% then that is at least part of the problem. Do this in Boinc Manager, just double click it and then click on the projects tab, or on each project website.

2nd how long do the Seti units take to run, if your cache is small and the units are taking a long time then the MW units won't fit into your cache schedule right now. Given time Boinc will switch and run more MW units, but this can take some time as the formula is not a simple one.

And 3rd are you leaving a cpu core free to feed the gpu? If not try that and see if the gpu units finish faster, the number in the Boinc Manager about how much cpu a gpu unit uses is grossly misleading, only doing an actual test will let you know for sure. A gpu can easily get 10 times the credits of a single cpu core, meaning you do more crunching, so if it helps the gpu run faster it is a good thing.

Yes, I always leave at least one core free to handle GPU load, and nothing has changed. I just started noticing that I wasn't getting any MW units. I still get lots of SETI units, but they are all CPU only. The only project I can get to pull any GPU units is Colatz.

I may have to completely remove BOIC and reinstall it and see if that helps.
