I have ben having this problem for about a year now. It makes no difference what version of boinc or GPU drivers I use, and boinc is the only program that can't find the GPU. After a restart of windows Boinc reports a missing GPU. If I exit boinc and reinstall the drivers (for my AMD/ATI 6950 GPU) and then restart boinc, It works fine until the next time windows restarts and then I have to exit boinc and reinstall the drivers and then restart boinc again. At least I can still run my projects but I'm getting frustrated with having to reinstall drivers every time I run an update that requires a restart of the computer. Does anyone have any Ideas of how I can solve this issue? Maybe s setting in the registry or something. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate X64 on an ASUS Crosshair V Formula with an AMD 1100T processor, 16 GB Ram, and an ASUS EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5 that has been flashed to a 6970 on the 13.1 drivers with version 7.0.62 (X64). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

I have ben having this problem for about a year now. It makes no difference what version of boinc or GPU drivers I use, and boinc is the only program that can't find the GPU. It sounds like Boinc isn't finding the ATI drivers upon a reboot, are you using the default location when you go thru the install process, or are you specifying a location manually? You may have to uninstall all the ATI drivers and then try again, after using a program to make sure they are all gone, and then reinstall to the default location. http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-%28Setup%29-download-1655.html is a place to get Driver Sweeper, it will remove all traces of the old drivers for you. |

Both the drivers and Boimc are installed with default settings. what a head ache after uninstalling and using driver sweeper I can't get it to work on GPU tasks at all. My event log sys thath my GPU doesn't support OpenCL but I know it does. here is my event log. 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | No config file found - using defaults 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Starting BOINC client version 7.0.62 for windows_x86_64 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Libraries: libcurl/7.25.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1 zlib/1.2.6 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Running under account techbird 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Processor: 6 AuthenticAMD AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1100T Processor [Family 16 Model 10 Stepping 0] 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 htt pni cx16 popcnt syscall nx lm svm sse4a osvw ibs skinit wdt page1gb rdtscp 3dnowext 3dnow 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | OS: Microsoft Windows 7: Ultimate x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00) 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Memory: 15.96 GB physical, 31.92 GB virtual 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Disk: 1.82 TB total, 228.30 GB free 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Local time is UTC -5 hours 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 6900 series (Cayman) (CAL version 1.4.1741, 2048MB, 2016MB available, 6221 GFLOPS peak) 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | App version needs OpenCL but GPU doesn't support it 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Einstein@Home | Application uses missing ATI GPU 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | App version needs OpenCL but GPU doesn't support it 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Einstein@Home | Application uses missing ATI GPU 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Einstein@Home | Missing coprocessor for task p2030.20121201.G175.46-00.87.S.b4s0g0.00000_800_0 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Einstein@Home | Missing coprocessor for task p2030.20121201.G202.41-00.83.S.b6s0g0.00000_1448_0 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Einstein@Home | Missing coprocessor for task p2030.20121201.G176.73+01.12.S.b0s0g0.00000_2240_1 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Einstein@Home | Missing coprocessor for task p2030.20121201.G176.31+00.45.S.b0s0g0.00000_1880_1 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | App version needs OpenCL but GPU doesn't support it 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Milkyway@Home | Application uses missing ATI GPU 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Einstein@Home | URL http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/; Computer ID 4095056; resource share 100 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Milkyway@Home | URL http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/; Computer ID 310042; resource share 100 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Milkyway@Home | General prefs: from Milkyway@Home (last modified 12-Feb-2012 14:33:54) 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Milkyway@Home | Computer location: home 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | Milkyway@Home | General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Reading preferences override file 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Preferences: 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | max memory usage when active: 8172.13MB 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | max memory usage when idle: 14709.84MB 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | max disk usage: 10.00GB 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | max CPUs used: 5 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | (to change preferences, visit a project web site or select Preferences in the Manager) 4/19/2013 11:38:43 PM | | Not using a proxy 4/19/2013 11:38:44 PM | | Suspending computation - time of day |

Both the drivers and Boimc are installed with default settings. When you initially installed Boinc you installed it under an account, are you running this under the same account? That is a common thing too, install it under one account and then when you use a different account it fails. Also did you happen to install it as a 'service' or a 'protected installation'? The gpu's will NOT work if you do that, unless you reload the drivers each and every time, like you must do now. Mine works but yours doesn't, so there MUST be something different! |

the account it was installed on is the only account on the computer so yes i'm running it on the same account. Also boinc was not installed protected installation or service checked. |

OK. Even after uninstalling and then wiping with driver sweeper ther were still several files left behind and all of them were part of OpenCL. http://devgurus.amd.com/thread/160303 The Catalyst installation doesn't over write a file if it already exists, if the version is the same. So if a file gets corrupted reinstalling drivers doesn't fix the corrupted file. AMD knew this but did not fix their uninstaller to solve the issue. They did make a cleaning utility that will fix this. The only drawback is it also removes chipset, and other driverfiles for their motherbord hardware as well. So you will have to reinstall all AMD/ATI drivers thsat you have on your system. The file is for Windows 7 ONLY!! There are reports of it messing up windows 8 to the point of having to reinstall windows. http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/catalyst-uninstall-utility.aspx OpenCL is now working as it should again. |
