Some of my slower computers and their GPU's still have GPU work units to process, however my faster computers are all out - CPU work units only. An 'Update' or 'Do network communication' does not remedy my lack of GPU work units to process. I checked the server status page and everything appears OK. If this is me, I'm not seeing it. Thanks! :) |

Occasionally a GPU work unit comes in on one of my dual GPU machines, it's crunched, uploaded and then nothing. Again, an 'Update' or 'Do network communication' does not download new GPU work units. Is MilkyWay@Home actually out of GPU work units for participants to process? |

And everything is OK again. Funny. All but one of your pc's is running the latest version of Boinc, is the one not updated the one having problems by chance? |

That computer has been moved to another project and no longer updates to MilkyWay@Home. This morning, all seems well. :) |

How are things looking for June 10/2013? My machines are running out (or are out) of GPU WU's to crush. Any idea when there will be a resolve to this shortage? Thanks! |

Looks like no more work units period. GPU or CPU. What's up guys? |

What version BOINC client are you using? What applications do you have selected for the project to send? As you can clearly see if you care to click my profile, I'm running 7.0.64. I run everything EXCEPT for N-Body work units as they are ridiculous. All my computers are sitting idle. If this doesn't get resolved soon, I'm going to find a new project and move to it pronto. I find this hilarious since no one seems to be doing anything to resolve this. I have many, many, many machines running BOINC projects. The eleven assigned to Milkyway@Home are all idle. My average is going down and I'm not happy. The rest of my machines doing "other" BOINC projects are happy. |

I work in IT. I have for over a decade. If a server side issue like this was present with any of my clients, and I didn't resolve it right away, I would be instantly replaced with someone capable of resolving the issue(s). |

A few of my machines are starting to download work units -- all good things. Thank you. |

Mind you, they are GPU work units for my AMD video cards only. I do not use nVidia cards on Milkyway@Home. AMD GPU WU - OK CPU WU - Nothing since 10am my time. Currently, it's 4:24PM my time. |

Any idea what caused this catastrophic malfunction? What steps are you guys taking to prevent these issues from arising in the future? |

Any idea what caused this catastrophic malfunction? What steps are you guys taking to prevent these issues from arising in the future? We needed to update the BOINC server code due to a security issue. The version of the BOINC server code we had been using was a few months out of day, so in making the change a bunch of things broke, as the BOINC server code is being constantly updated. To make matters worse our old version of the BOINC server code had a few hacks in it to get things to work, so we had to port those over, or swap out our hacks for stuff in the main BOINC codebase now. Was a lot messier than expected, but now that we're back up to date with the server code things should be good for awhile. You need to recognize that both MilkyWay@Home and extent BOINC are actively developed research projects, and most of the work is done by myself (and I am not even at RPI anymore) and students at RPI. We don't have full time IT people getting paid to support these projects. I work on milkyway@home mostly in my free time, which is extremely limited now that I'm an assistant professor at university of north dakota and have many other research projects to work on and classes to teach. I'd like to say things like this won't happen in the future, but I'd be lying. Given the nature of MilkyWay@Home and BOINC, problems are going to happen as we have new students learn things and code gets updated. |

Copy that. Thank you for the update. I completely understand that working with computers (technology) is extremely frustrating at times. We all appreciate the hard work and time put in by the volunteer admins here at Milkyway@Home. :) |
