I'm leaving Milkyway@Home. No one at MW takes things seriously. I was crunching 8 GPU work units at once. Now I'm crunching 1. I've dicked around modifying app_config.xml, but to no effect. Things change faster then the programmers/developers/engineers can manage. Therefore, I'm aborting all MW tasks and moving on to a better funded, better managed BOINC project. At first, this project seemed really cool. Downloads/uploads were way smoother then anything SETI@Home was able to manage and MW really took advantage of AMD video cards. Things since March have really fallen apart. Peace! |

<app_config> <app> <name>milkyway</name> <max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>0.05</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> <app> <name>milkyway_separation__modified_fit</name> <max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>0.05</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> Odds are this app_config should take care of your problem (I logged in to fix the single WU per GPU "problem" with the new app). Try joining Rosetta@Home. |

Too late for app_config tinkering. All eleven computers have been aborted of all MW tasks. I was going to leave without making a fuss, but that's not me. I'm the black sheep that travels upstream in the thick of it. Rosetta@Home seems interesting, but I'm not keen on spending huge money (electricity $$$) on a human problem. You see, I don't really care about humans. I'm interested in exploration/advancement only. |

P.Skingle-wish you'd given the folks here a chance to help you. Best wishes on future crunching ![]() ![]() |

I know of two ways to accomplish that: Server-side: Einstein has added a setting to setup (in the personnel settings) the amount of wu_s running an GPU, Client-side: The use of app_info.xml is quite simple; I found this example in a forum: I use this for WCG: < app_config> < app> < name>hcc1</name> < max_concurrent>8</max_concurrent> < gpu_versions> < gpu_usage>0.25</gpu_usage> < cpu_usage>0.27</cpu_usage> < /gpu_versions> < /app> < /app_config> <app_config> < app> < name>hcc1</name> < max_concurrent>4</max_concurrent> < gpu_versions> < gpu_usage>0.25</gpu_usage> < cpu_usage>0.35</cpu_usage> < /gpu_versions> < /app> < /app_config> More details could be found @boinc. Usually the admins should be aware of that and I mean, it's their duty to post this ... @ P. Skingle and JLConawayII: Sorry to see you leaving, every project has ups and downs, times will get better again. If you're looking for a project with good support and wu's for your AMD GPU's take a look into Einstein@home; 8 of the 10 top computers there are AMD-GPU driven, the first non AMD is on 4th place (4 Tesla's) Cheers Alex |

Chilean Thank you very much. Than app_info did the trick on my rig. |

app_info .... See (scroll to the bottom of the page): http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration ... for format of use. Run don't walk to use it - its a godsend, once set you just leave it forever, it picks up automatically server-side changes such as new versions blah blah. For 99% of Users it means no fiddling with massive app_info's any more. Once set, that's it, just crunch on; the server will automatically update and supply the files you need when you start a crunch session. |

What? I'm not leaving, I was telling him to leave and not come back. Rather than just ask for help like a civilized human being, he stomps around like an angry child making a scene, as if he's so important the project is going to crumble without his illustrious presence. LOOKIT ME!! LOOKIT ME!! I'M MAD AND I'M LEAVING!!! Great, no one cares. Bye. No, I'm not going anywhere. This is a worthwhile project and I'm very happy to be able to contribute. |
