I was looking at a GPU that would be in the 200 range [ or a little over ] would this be a good choice I can't find double precision info . any help ? thanks http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127722&nm_mc=EMC-EXPRESS101213&cm_mmc=EMC-EXPRESS101213-_-EMC-101213-Index-_-DesktopGraphicsVideoCards-_-14127722-L06C |

Let me see if this works: card type-MW capable shaders Nvidia 8600 GT 128 Nvidia 9800 GT/512meg 112 Nvidia 9600 GSO/ 512meg 64 Nvidia GTX 560Ti-yes 384 Nvidia 650Ti-yes 768 Nvidia 660-yes 1344 Nvidia 670- yes 1344 Nvidia 680-yes 1536 Nvidia 690-yes 3072 Nvidia 770 1536 ATI 4650 AGP-no 320 ATI 4670-no 320 ATI 5550-no 320 AMD 5770-no 800 AMD 5870-yes 1600 AMD 6770-no 800 AMD 6850-no 960 AMD 6870-no 1120 AMD 6950-yes 1408 AMD 6970-yes 1536 AMD 7750-yes 512 AMD 7770-yes 640 AMD 7790-yes 896 AMD 7850-yes 1024 AMD 7870-yes 1280 AMD 7950-yes 1792 AMD 7970-yes 2048 AMD 7990-yes 4096 Shaders are what is important to AMD type cards, Nvidia is similar but you can NOT compare them head to head that way. The yes means that yes it WILL work here at MilkyWay. If there is no yes or no it means I don't know if it works here or not. I THINK the chart is accurate but ALWAYS double check to make sure!! The other day at TigerDirect they had an AMD 7970 on sale for 230 bucks, yesterday I saw a similar 7970 on sale at Newegg for 250 bucks. And YES the 7970's will work here with the latest software. As for the Nvidia's there is a breakover point where the newest ones aren't better then the older ones, as the newer ones don't do full speed double processing or something like that. You can click on my name and see my pc's and see how fast each of my gpu's was working when they were last here. I tend to come and go here depending on the workunit flow elsewhere. Right now my cpu's are here but not my gpu's. |

Let me see if this works: None of these have DP support. You need at least a GTX260 and above to have it. All of the 4XX, 5XX, 6XX and 7XX series have DP. |

You'll notice that Radeon HD 7000 series is going out of stock quickly. They are being replaced by the new R7/R9 series which are pre-overclocked and slightly improved Radeon HD 7000s. I would buy them as fast as you can as the R9 270X (1280 cores) which costs the same as a HD 7950 (1792 cores) is actually a HD 7870 (1280 cores) clocked to ~1100Mhz (or in my case 1200Mhz in Linux). You can easily clock a HD 7950 to 1100Mhz for this and other projects with minimal voltage increase. AMD GPUs have the best DP performance, especially if you opt into the later tiers (aka HD 7900s) which don't cut DP performance. |
